DnallorrChurchill DownerWinston Churchill would delightedly slap you with his wet cigar. Remember... Dan typically brings us a unique and empathetic view of the poor damned souls caught up in the gears of war/history. Having listened to Dan before I know he could easily fill 6-10 hours of air time discussing chaotic perspectives to our war torn current events. Yet the podcast feed remains empty? What could be the cause of such a shirking of duty? This honestly puzzles me as he deliberately takes controversial positions to enlighten others and I personally believe, as a bonus fly through the opposing flak whilst quietly flipping a mental bird to his objectors. The stars have aligned and the current political narrative is a nice hanging curve ball asking to be, well you know Carlinized….

Sir LogicMaking Common Sense, Common!Dan Carlin gives a very straigh forward and logical understanding to today's world. He is a pleasure to listen to and entertains you while giving you ideas to ponder. If you don't listen to him, you are missing Common Sense! Updated 5/2024: I miss these shows as his approach and insight challenged my thought and kept me from getting sucked in to the mainstream media and social media hammering me with their nonsense most of the time.
-
former WNYC supporterIronic TitleThe title Common Sense is funny because Dan Carlin literally has none. Despite his deep knowledge of history, his perspectives are just the run of the mill Leftist Dogma. It’s a reminder that he is first and foremost just another elitist journalist.

Old Greg VtDan Carlin, A fundamentally decent personHaving listened to CS going back to the early Obama period, I feel like my positions evolved in parallel with Dan’s for many years but now the current geopolitical landscape has caused me to seriously question my own previously held views. Regardless of what positions Dan would now hold, the fundamental decency of him is that he changes his mind when the facts change, and for that he has been a wonderful influence for me. I miss his commentary and I hope he returns to CS eventually.

Sammi SwartzOnce a Great Podcast, Once a Great ManDan Carlin was once a hero of mine. He’d wail against the surveillance state, warn and worry about the growing corruption in government, and try to devise some kind of solution. Then Trump got elected and, while some commentators got deranged, Dan simply went silent. Sure, the occasional show would crop up. But as of 2024, during a time where the Federal Government has become increasingly pervasive, invasive, and sinister, Mr. Carlin seems oddly reluctant to talk about the obvious—the State’s become dangerous, and positive change is coming too slowly, too late. The ‘why’ behind the man’s absence is likely due to several issues. But ultimately, it’s hard for any man to remain bi-partisan in such a disintegrating climate. No matter what he says—that Trump’s a narcissist or Biden’s a puppet—he’s in for a pile of hate. So he stays quiet. At the cost of everything he once supposedly held dear. And if that’s the case—that Dan would ignore the commercial web of deceit that weaves its seams from sea to sea—maybe it’s best he’s left the stage. Because we need a Steward of Truth. Of Vision. And not a coward. And certainly not a sympathizer for the Marxist hivemind seeking to undermine the very fabric of American life.

Zero suit SamusDan’s insight and explanations would be more valuable now than everWhile I get that politics has become a new level of contentious, one more well spoken voice of reason could only help during these politically absurd times. Please consider doing more of these!

JasscharpGreat podcastI really enjoy this podcast. The subjects are interesting and the host speaks well with a nice pace. I’ve listened to all the episodes and find myself repeating them!
-
pudgy fatGreat nonpartisan showYou know it’s a good political show when all the 1 star reviews are either calling him a leftist or a right winger. Maybe he’s just neither?
-
Rapstarclapstar23Zackdaddy you don’t need more tinfoilYou need to touch grass. Left or right still both lead to the capitalist class ruling over everything you do. All the identity politics you consume your life with won’t matter when your water and air are ruined. Wake up.

BeneserreCommons Sense/Thomas Paine.Ouch! Dag, Boy—you be hitchhiking without credit/reference/attribution obo this early persuasive Colonial pamphleteer, who argued for independence of the American Colonies from Great Britain, at a time there when there was little serious government or popular discussion. More attitude than insight. Kiss off.

_RilesMcGiles_New year, new review. Same requestMore Dan please! Now that it’s been over a year I feel better in begging. Dan gets 5 stars from me every review, and I only hope he sees these to know how much we want him back! I don’t care if he’s lost faith in a true democratic system, doesn’t know what to say, whatever - I’d love to hear him verbally process if nothing else.

Runone4funDan has help set my political compassI first started listening to Common Sense around episode 87. Or was it 78? That would’ve been sometime in the mid to late 2000s. I of course came across Dan like many other followers, through Hardcore History, then eventually found myself listening to Common Sense. Sometimes months or even years would go by before I would pick back up to listen to his latest show. Now that Dan has been releasing CS shows less than 1x every 6 months, I found myself flipping back and listening to old shows. He often talks to listeners that might be listening to the recording in the current time when the show was released or further down the road into distant or not so distant the future…. Well here I am, in the future listening to some of these older shows for the first time or 2nd or 3rd time and I’m finding his words have deeper meaning now than they have had when the episode first aired.

Sepharad111 months since last showLove Dans work, but 11 months since the last update is too much. Maybe time to downsize and refocus?

"Hash" Patty Robinsonwe need dan back.Times are crazy and its hard to find a trustworthy opinion on complicated events. Dan provides insightful viewpoints that can cut through the noise of media bias. Please come back. 🙏
-
nonviolent christianThank you for the words of wisdom Dan!He gave good thoughts on how to try to navigate this crazy political environment. The haters from both sides of the aisle unfortunately drove him away. Hopefully things cool down enough for him to come back eventually.
-
ResdekovMissing ya,Dan!I have a 45 min commute every morning to base, and Dan’s commentary is an excellent prelude to a day’s work. You can’t put dan in any box, really, and it’s just a well; he keeps it about the topic. Hope you’re okay out there, Dan.
-
The DillaDan Carlin is part of the machineCan’t wait for Dan’s new episode where he continues to ignore the corruption of the deep state (fbi , Twitter , democrats) and continues to parrot mainstream media talking points. #grifter

mattwaltrWe need more Common SenseDan, I miss hearing your thoughts on current events. I always appreciated hearing your perspective and I hope you get back to Common Sense sometime soon.

jusdachWhat goes around comes aroundWhere ya been, Dan? No more Common Sense to share now that your president’s results are abundantly clear?

SchwagglezI consider it a fair view on our current political affairsMost of the reviews that are one star are just vapid counters to what reality is. I don’t agree with everything Dan says, but that doesn’t mean I don’t listen and understand. Our world politically is so polarizing at the moment that if you step a fraction either way you’re considered the “enemy.” And sometimes honest words hurt to hear because that means either you’re wrong or the idea is wrong and you don’t want either of those to be the options. I think, overall, Dan gives his honest (emphasis on HIS) opinion on what is going on. And I don’t think you should take every word of his as the literal truth either. But that doesn’t mean what he is saying isn’t honest. And with honesty comes some truths too. It’s easier to blame and point fingers, but I can respect a view that states things as they are and instead of stoking the fire tries to have some semblance of civil conversation in a time where politically it’s hard to without making some divide in families and friendships.
-
Case-bobSoooooo disappointedI’ve been listening to Dan since the mid 90’s. Originally I gave this podcast 5 stars. Now in 2022 I’ve been listening back to old episodes, and it’s incredible how wrong he is. My political mindset was formed almost entirely by Dan Carlin whether lessons learned from history or current events, I always trusted him. But now, looking back he’s obviously a political grifter. I shouldn’t be surprised with his Hollywood upbringing, he is very much just in love with his own “style” but at the end of the day…. Shame on ME for being so utterly deceived.

Jimmy C420Dan Carlin became scared of the leftWould love to see his rationale for this administration’s abject failures, Dan’s silence on current events is deafening.
-
right-of-center-stewKeep up the good workI’ve listened to all the hch, love it, recommended and gifted to many people, Dan Carlin should voice EVERY audiobook! And I have gained personal perspective and understanding that even though I don’t completely agree with all his political beliefs, it’s refreshing to hear an alternate, logical and calm expression from “the other side” NEVER STOP PODCASTING!!!
-
WaMachinistStunning silence on Jan 6 Commitee.Wow. Such a terrible decline. I hope you’ve got a set of those “see no, speak no, hear no evils” monkeys because Dams got his Republican Blinders on. You can’t just ignore Trumps crimes at this point without that action in and of itself cementing you’re side.
-
J.Franco48Not well explainedFor instance, President Trump should have been impeached, ok , on what grounds? The shooting of Ashly Babbitt was justified ? This is not the common sense of 2010 , poor Dan seems to have contracted a severe case of TDS. The next time a conspiracy theorist claims they are building concentration camps, stay calm and remind them This. Is. Not. Australia.
-
horgarLeftist drivelWell thought out nonsense from a whiner in a leftist silo. If you think it’s all Republican and Trump’s fault, this show is for you.
-
lovelyoils666Finally!!Finally we have someone broadcasting some common sense. Much needed, especially in these insecure times. Thank you Dan.
-
JimatodiaDan Carlin Common SenseSuper Smart!
-
MajormagerLove Dan’s other podcasts. This one? Not so much…He claims to be unbiased and impartial, but politically Trump broke Dan. I don’t like Trump and didn’t vote for him; still think Dan developed TDS and radically changed the contents of this podcast after he was elected. He’s a lot closer to a mainstream democrat voice ala Pod Save America than any unbiased or impartial reporting.
-
joejoebagginsTruly common senseYou don’t have to agree with everything he says to admit that he stays fairly grounded and attempts to see all sides of the issue unlike a lot of peie who only want to hear what they want to hear
-
fizzelineRumbling wisemanOur rumbling, sometimes grumbling wise anchorite on top of the hill. Thank you
-
nxavisPre-Trump OnlyThis is an easy 5 stars because it was my main political awakening, BUT the nuance evaporated once Trump was elected. Dan got TDS, plain and simple, and as a left leaning person it pains me to admit that. His independent analysis of the Obama era was the best in the game and holds up very well to this day.
-
Nyarl de la ThotepDisappointingDan rode hard-core success because his shallow but emotional delivery that was the precursor of our disturbing times. It is amusing to see the right seem to lose patience with him because I think they ALL could use math, logic, history (lots), and science classes to help them avoid their most common errors and thus save the world.
