The Mark of a Druid

60

When twenty-six-year-old Eve McCormick awakes, the images from her nightmare are indelible. The dream feels so real she must force herself to get a grip. This experience is just the beginning for Eve, a Los Angeles clinical hypnotherapist and researcher investigating whether reincarnation is fact or fiction.Unstoppable visions of an ancient lifetime steal days from her. The danger escalates when she wakes up physically injured and marked with a strange symbol. While Eve battles the past to maintain her sanity and safety, her project is jeopardized as another researcher's attempts to take over. One partner dies and another is accused of inappropriate conduct. Eve and her friend, Dr. Andrea McMurray, don't believe in coincidence and probe their shared visions for answers. On the other side of the Atlantic, Welshman Ryerson Sanders is haunted by his dreams and believes Eve's research project can help him. For both of them, an ancient Celtic prophecy and long-sought revenge entangles the past with the present. A druidess and a shape-shifter must join to save the druid way of life, while a queen conspires to kill Erin's only high king. Will the oaths and agendas of the past reach across the centuries to strengthen or to destroy?

    Phenomenal book
Just found this book. Very well written. Good narration as well. Highly recommended.

    The Mark of a Druid
The story is engaging and imediately draws in the listener, but it is excruciating to listen to Ms. Carpenter read it. She souneds angry - especially when trying to voice the characters, shouts the names of the characters and pauses immediately after as if she is reading stage directions, and apparently cannot tell the difference between a comma and a period. Her inflection in sentences and questinos is all wrong. It made me wonder if she actually wrote the story she was reading.

    Wonderful Must Hear Book
This book was beautiful! I laughed, cried and cheered along with the characters. Some say the author sounds robotic but I found her voice to be enchanting and raspy. I think maybe the editing is the reason it was sometimes choppy, but overall a fantastic book!

    Great book, needs different narrator!
Like a previous reviewer said, the book is great. The author/reader has a very robotic voice and she has a very strange way of speaking. It makes me wonder if she talks like that normally. If you can get past that you'll enjoy the book.

    Good story, Worth recommending.
Very well written with many subplots that keep me interested. You can tell the author did some research on druids for the story line. Would have liked a more expanded ending , like a final battle sequence between Eve and Samantha. Overall, I really enjoyed it. I could see it as a movie.

    Interesting Story, Poor Presentation
While the concept of the story is interesting, and the listener is interested to know what follows next, a number of snags distract from the story. The author has an odd rhythm to her reading, including pauses in strange places, and for some reason never used the past-tense of the word "ask". Accents should be completely abandoned altogether as they do not seem accurate to the characters played and are only used intermittently anyway. Finally, though I am no expert in the history of ancient England/Scotland/Ireland, based on the numerous books I've read personally, the story seems rife with historical inaccuracies that distract from the plot. The author does do a good job of editing and utilizing sound effects, so a big kudos there. In short, if you can tune out the distractions of the presentation and don't know or care much about historical accuracy, you'll likely find the story amusing.

I listen to this book during my commute. Even though the narration is a little choppy and some of the parts are slow-going, I can not stop listening!

    Excellant!
I did not think I would like this as I have recently been reading so much of the same genre. I downloaded it though and started. Well, once I started, I could not stop. Voices are really good, sound effects are timely and unique. Would love to get more from this author.

    Excellent Tale
Loved this story. The characters are believeable. The author drags you into her world and before you know it, it's over! Where's the sequel?

    deja vu
Have you ever felt like you have dreamed about something that you have lived in the past? Ever felt like you have met someone but can't put your finger on where and when? Erver felt like you have been somewhere when this is your first visit there? It's almost like coming home. This is a great book and I am looking forward to the next one! I couldn't wait to listen to the next chapter. Rhonda Carpenter is a very talented author and she makes this book come alive when she reads it.

    It's all about the story
I absolutely love this story! It's one of those that you read and then end up thinking about or even dreaming about that night! It's well written and the characters are presented in a way that makes you feel their emotions. You feel like you know them, or someone like them. My only complaint would be the reading of the book. There are pauses in sentences where there shouldn't be pauses, and it drove me nuts at times. But it's all about the story, and as others who reviewed this book have said you get past the authors stop and go reading style because you're so engrossed in the story itself. I listen to a lot of podiobooks and I have to say that this is really one of the best I've heard two years of listening.

What if you could settle a score from the past? Would you?
In The Mark of a Druid what goes around comes around takes on a whole new meaning. I enjoyed the Celtic time frame as much as the present modern time frame. Good plot easy to follow and it is a page Real turner. Carpenter has done a great job of setting up the next book without leaving the reader’s need for instant gratification out.

Rhonda Carpenter has a winner with this one
A great story (two plots intertwined across the centuries), masterfully written with rich descriptions that make it come to life. Be warned – you will not want to put your iPod down until you reach the end of this suspenseful tale. The author narrated the story, and I greatly enjoyed her reading of it. She had a strong, clear voice that I appreciated while listening on long bus rides.

    Hooked from the begining =)
Got it for a convention distraction. I started off by downloading the first 3 chapters, I finished that the first night and couldn't get to a computer to download the rest for 3 days! Can't wait for the sequel ;-)

    I could not stop listening!
The storyline is captivating and well written. The characters are well developed and interesting. I have listened to many free podcasts, but this is the first time I've felt compelled to write a review. Ms. Carpenter, thank you for this free audiobook.

    Historic Sleep Induced Fiction
If you are looking for a well written and put together story, this is just what you are looking for. I liked the way the characters from the past were intermingled with the characters in the here and now. I can't wait to hear what happens next in the lives of our heroine and hero, her friend/sister and the rest of the people in the 21st century and their corelation with the past. I think the combination of this novel with "The Fox" was a great idea in marketing. Both are an excellent listen and do go well together. Keep up the good writing!

    Excellent Story/Must Read-Listen
This book is excellent. When I first downloaded it, I didn’t realize that I didn’t have the whole thing. When I caught up to the author, I was disappointed that I now had to wait until the next episode was released. I have now purchased the physical book and I can’t wait for it to arrive. When you first start listening, it seems a little bit boring and dry because the authors reading is too much of a monolog but stick with it because it doesn’t take long for you to get hooked; and the authors reading improves by leaps and bounds as she moves forward in the story. I can wait to see what the author comes up with next.

    very very good
suspense masterfully built. Feminine power in all it's subtlety. The reincaration theme is not obtrusive. Druidic notes are not overplayed. As the tempo buids, I participate. I almost hope it is just begining.

    Engrossing story
Ms. Carpenter has written a story that will pull you in and not let you go. Every time I think I can guess the next twist in the story she pulls a rabbit out of her hat that you'll never see comming. A great story. Thanks Rhonda!!

    Keeps you coming back
Rhonda has written a story that is evolving in different centuries. I find the history to be fascinating and the modern story is captivating. Both keep me on the edge of my chair and ready to listen to every chapter.

You know that one dream . . .
The Mark of a Druid lets you escape to another, older, world. Read by the author, this audiobook takes place in present times as well as the past through past-life regression-- some voluntary and some not. The author takes her time making you care about the characters, and lets you see them age. It isn't always pretty, or appropriate for younger audiences since some of the scenes are steamy, but you do believe in what the characters are feeling. I broke down and bought the print copy off Amazon so that I could read through to the end. Let me tell you, the action increases dramatically as you go along! I am particularly glad that I started listening to the audiobook first or I wouldn't have had any idea how some of the authentic names were pronounced. The author did her research. If you have a fondness for druidic culture and past-life regression, you should give this audiobook a chance. Five stars.

    Good Involving story
I highly recommend this story which alternates between the present day and the Britain of the Druids. I found the engaging both in the present and the future. I impatiently await the next episode. You have to get used the way the author reads which is a little dead pan in the beginning. Ultimately, the world Ms. Carpenter has created will win you over.
