Our National Conversation About Conversations A...

Co-discussants Anna Holmes, Baratunde Thurston, Raquel Cepeda and Tanner Colby host a lively multiracial conversation about the ways we canโ€™t talk, donโ€™t talk, would rather not talk, but intermittently, fitfully, embarrassingly do talk about culture, identity, politics, power, and privilege in our pre-post-yet-still-very-racial America. This show is "About Race."

This podcast is AMAZING! I want to hear more!

    What??????
HOW could Panoply cancel this podcast???? I truly cannot comprehend that anyone with a brain could not understand that this is the most important conversation we should be having. All of our issues as a nation find some intersection with race and our history.

    Hahahaha late review
This show was/is amazing. It really helped me through some stuff and I was sad to see it go.

    Amazing
As a white person doing my best to be a better ally, this podcast gives me the space to learn, be held accountable for the ways in which I perpetuate the problems, and gives me lots of food for thought about how to be and do better. I'm appreciative for the conversation and the opportunity to spend the rest of my day thinking and wrestling with whatever topics were covered in that episode. LOVE!

my only complaint with this podcast is that it didn't make it to the trump era ๐Ÿ’” we need it now more than ever

    Missing it
This was an amazing show, and I really loved the "B-Side" episodes.

Very sad to see my fav go
Oddly, Amicus is advertising the FIRST episode on her latest show - after Panoply cancelled About Race. It was such a great show, I've been lobbying other companies to pick it up in a slightly different format so the hosts can weave in and out as necessary. I REALLY LOVE THIS SHOW! Even if it's gone for good, worth going back & listening from the beginning. Especially thoughtful and incredibly honest. Refreshing! Wah - bring it back!

    Unfortunate
I really enjoyed this podcast. Sad to see this show go, though I understand why it's leaving the National Conversation. It really wasn't the same since the hiatus. I was an early adopter of the show and was even featured on a B side episode (#12 I think). Baratunde, Raquel and Tanner had a solid thing going, and I think the show lost some steam when that dynamic changed. Arguments & differing opinions are great, though I found these new conversations with Anna Holmes to be less constructive. Because of this and seeing the natural flow of the show erode, I unsubscribed not too long after the change. This show had its bright spots, and even helped my decision of starting my own podcast (Urbanist Unfiltered). I guess me and other listeners have to pick up the baton and continue the convo. Much success to all those involved with this show.

    Bring This Back!
I found this podcast two episodes before it stopped and I love it! I am listening to all the previous episodes and am disheartened that in a time (post 1/20/17 12:00pm EST) when I feel conversations like this are necessary, the podcast was cancelled. One of the things that I value most about this podcast is that it is a conversation about race, not an argument, not a debate, a conversation. I also very much appreciate Tanner's voice on the podcast because he challenges my assumptions about what role white men play in the conversation about race. I wish I would have found this podcast earlier and I hope that in the future it is picked back up or some new iteration of if develops. Thanks to all who played a role in the production of this podcast.

So sad the show is ending.
I have learned a lot from listening to the show I can't believe it is ending when we need it most. I will try to follow the contributors other offerings. - Old white guy from Ohio. ๐Ÿ˜€

    Sorry it's ending
Fantastic podcast. Hope it reemerges like a phoenix. This podcast is leaving right when we need it most. :-(

    Please don't cancel
I love this podcast and I think it is an extremely important member of the Panoply network. I'm so sad to hear it's being cancel and sincerely hope Panoply reconsiders. Thoughtful conversations with diverse voices.

So bummed this show has been cancelled!
I'm so bummed! I love listening to this show and think it brings such a great perspective during these complex times. In order to drive the conversation forward, we have to speak frankly. For me, About Race was great at doing this.

    Hurts
The value this podcast provides for me as a southern black man is priceless. Having had the pleasure and ability to have traveled this country and having had to exist in so many different spaces, I have found so many relatable subject matters that are necessary listening for those who are active and inactive in this struggle of human understanding. This was a great podcast. I so wish that it could continue in some shape form or fashion. I truly enjoyed every single episode. My heart breaks knowing it will not be popping up on my phone. I spent many days on my ride to and from work listening gaining hope that there are thoughtful people across the spectrum of the most basic visual human characteristic. I pray that this effort is carried on in all that everyone does. Thank you for this. I loved every second of it.

    Deeply Saddened
It is very disappointing to see this show go. Not only have enjoyed but learned so much from you guys and was really looking forward to being able to listen to you in these coming years. This show is something we so desperately need because we don't know how to discuss this still to this day.
  • samolly
    Cancelled!!!
This is a fabulous podcast on very timely issues in this 'Trump' era we have entered so Panoply in their infinite wisdom cancels it. More white people squashing minority voices.
  • Big Pimpin Angel
    Excellent Show
    Anna Holmes is awesome.
  • Sadshowguy
Yeah... I can't do this anymore
I really wanted this to work out but they just made it impossible. The conversation was so frustrating to listen to, the hosts so narrow-minded and confident in their particular opinions. I hope I can find something similar but more well rounded and thought-provoking elsewhere.

I listen to every episode rapturously. I listen with my Mom to educate her about race from another perspective and we always have tense conversations but she is always learning more and more.

    Anna Holmes
I love listening to this podcast and appreciate Anna as a host, but at time she dismisses opinions rather than listen. Talking about race is difficult, but you can hear the annoyance in her voice when Tanner makes an opinion. Especially on the episode "will you be my black friend" - which is actually an individual decision. As a Latina, I don't mind talking to my white co-workers about race. I don't always like talking about it and I'll change the conversation but again, I choose to engage if I want to and that's it. The other on this podcast a great and enjoy their ability to talk and navigate conversation without hostility in their voice.

    One of my favorite podcasts
Beautiful and informative podcast with leftist/progressive points of view from highly educated and intelligent people, which I appreciate. Only downside is Anna Holmes, whose opinions I do agree with, but I only wish she would find gentler ways to disagree with her co-hosts without outright dismissing/cutting them off.

The show is 5/5 when it features Baratunde, Tanner, and Raquel. 1/5 with the new lineup.

Anna Holmes has ruined this podcast!
I have been a huge fan of this podcast since the very beginning. I loved the dynamic between Raquel, Baratunde and Tanner. They had a great chemistry. Then the show goes on break and returns with Anna Holmes who sounds like she would rather be anywhere else in the world than interacting with her co-hosts. She is dismissive, cuts people off in the middle of their argument to impose her opinion before the speaker has even said two words (Raquel and Tanner have been very restrained in response to Holmes' rudeness). Regarding Baratunde, as a listener I feel he now gets to speak less just b/c of Holmes' presence. Mr. Thurston was what drew me to the show in the first place! I always thought that the 3 initial hosts would be people who could grab a beer after the show. They had disagreements but seemed to LISTEN to each other. Keep up the good work Baratunde/Raquel/Tanner. I truly hope you guys read these reviews and hopefully take action. P.S As a Dominican I would love to hear Raquel interview someone like Junot Diaz about race on the island and in NYC.

I only wish I had discovered this sooner! Excellent discussions.

    Ridiculous
Just another left wing, liberal agenda being forced down the throats of society.
  • Spirit Sprinkles
    Wholly one sided monologists
A hand full of hyper liberals in their bubble of "safely blue, New York" where they exclusively right-bash. They offer 0.00 opposing voices or anything that doesn't serve to confirm their biases. Very Whinny and unproductive. Download Racewars if you want genuine conversations about race.

    Powerful
Post-election, I've been looking for thoughtful podcasts that I can listen to on my drives to and from work, since I can't bear to listen to the news. This is one that fills the bill. Thought-provoking and fearless, the speakers articulate views about race that challenge and inspire. Really enjoying this!

    Valuable podcast...but
Hearing all viewpoints has never been more important. However, one large aspect of racism is painting with a broad brush... identifying it in others, yes, but also do not fall into the trap of doing it yourselves.
  • Aarong3eason
    This podcast is evil
GK Chesterton famously wrote: "But the new rebel is a skeptic, and will not entirely trust anything. He has no loyalty; therefore he can never be really a revolutionist. And the fact that he doubts everything really gets in his way when he wants to denounce anything. For all denunciation implies a moral doctrine of some kind; and the modern revolutionist doubts not only the institution he denounces, but the doctrine by which he denounces it. . . . As a politician, he will cry out that war is a waste of life, and then, as a philosopher, that all life is waste of time. A Russian pessimist will denounce a policeman for killing a peasant, and then prove by the highest philosophical principles that the peasant ought to have killed himself. . . . The man of this school goes first to a political meeting, where he complains that savages are treated as if they were beasts; then he takes his hat and umbrella and goes on to a scientific meeting, where he proves that they practically are beasts. In short, the modern revolutionist, being an infinite skeptic, is always engaged in undermining his own mines. In his book on politics he attacks men for trampling on morality; in his book on ethics he attacks morality for trampling on men. Therefore the modern man in revolt has become practically useless for all purposes of revolt. By rebelling against everything he has lost his right to rebel against anything." This podcast incarnates that idiocy perfectly. I didn't realize how much I had started to hate Black people until I stopped listening to this podcast. Listening to vile purposeless solution less trash like this poisons the soul. It turns humans against each other. Because it isn't based in anything except hatred and ignorance. These people care more about words than truth. They actually want to increase racial hatred because that perpetuates their feminist communist Ivy League worldview. Their hearts have become twisted and dark. Only the light of Christ can fix our racial problems. MLK jr would have nothing to do with this sort of nonsense. Only repentance and forgiveness can bring our nation any peace, and the only kind of peace that matters is between persons. Social justice is a scam. Jesus will fix all things at the end. Until then we must look to him and nothing else for peace. We must do what is right not what is easy, learn to love and not divide, learn to accept and not judge. These morons want you to believe they offer that but they simply do not. They offer posturing and "correctness" over truth, righteousness, and altruism. They offer hatred and politics of identity. They offer Ferguson, riots, and irresponsibility over education, virtue, and freedom. I won't allow this to poison me anymore. I refuse to let hatred fester in my heart. I refuse to be politically correct. I am politically incorrect because my Lord is politically incorrect and only he says all are welcome at my table, not white people with the right level of flagellation, not black people with the right politics, all of us are welcome in his arms. Only this frees us from the chains of the past, only this let's us see each other as people and not tokens, not causes, but humans.

    Wow
I'm not sure what I expected, but I listened to the post-election episode and was highly offended. The tone and message as clear from the start, that anyone who voted for Trump was an unapologetic white supremacist. Anyone with a shred of common sense knows this is untrue. The commentators waste ink

    Invite me to your show
I challenge you to put me on your a show and just maybe I can explain to you why your reasoning is so far of you are in another reality. I have many friends who come from different areas and all of us had the same back ground and unlike the current state of affairs we don't see everything in color just character and integrity (two things the liberal wing does NOT have) You guys pin everything that does not go your way as racism and then try to shame everyone into group think, in other words you are intolerant. So I challenge you, put me on your show if you have the courage.

    Awesome podcast!
I was looking for a podcast regarding informed discussions on race. Especially after this election and as a white man, I wanted more information so I can help effect change. This is an amazing podcast. I wish discussions such as these happened more frequently. Episode 1645 was especially cathartic for me. Kudos to the panel for having such a calm and rational conversation. I will definitely forward the podcast to a bunch of friends.

    Replace Anna Holmes
I love this show but I dislike the new host. She is argumentative and rude. I hate the way she dismisses almost everything Tanner says even when he provides evidence for his opinions. It is also very apparent that she is reading at times (badly)and she interrupts and corrects her guests and other cohosts even though she is not as intelligent or erudite as they are. Sadly, the show lacks its former energy and verve. Where is Raquel? Please bring her back to replace the current host. This show is a mere shadow of its former self.

    This is a great one
One of those podcasts where I wish I was in a room with them, and I kind of feel like I am.
  • Smart_Alex
    Liberal trash
I could not last more than 5 minutes after checking out this podcast as they declare Clinton a winner over Trump not saying in advance he would accept the results. They said nothing of national security or destabilizing Libya or Benghazi because they live in their Starbucks bubble where they sit and tell one another how great they are. ABSOLUTELY ANNOYING. Clearly these morons don't understand entrepreneurs usually fail over and over before they succeed. They want the dems to continue to oppress blacks feeding them scraps and doing nothing other than create political unrest every 4 years in exchange for a vote. Idiots . ๐Ÿ‘Ž

    Let's Start With Facts
115, 105, 100, 89, 85, and 70. What are these numbers? IQs of Jews, Asians (Japanese, Chinese, Koreans), Europeans/Whites, Latin Americans (native, non-European), American Blacks of Sub-Saharan ancestery (who on average have 20% European DNA), and Sub-Saharan Africans. Almost all anti-Semetism is merely jealousy of Jewish success, which is due to their IQ. Same for American Blacks, who lag economically due to their IQ, not racism. Facts are not racist. IQ tests have been proven and validated for over 100 years, and over the past 40, been proven again and again to have zero racial or ethnic bias. We must fight government endorsed racism, aka Affirmative Action. It's anti-Semetic. as it requires Jewish students to score more than Black students on the SATs, sets maximum quotas for hiring Jews by requiring a selected number of Blacks and Latinos, and uses the Orwellian term/practice of "race norming" to hire less qualified non-Jews in police/fire departments and goverment positions. Bottom line, we're all Africans, as humanity traces its roots to Africa. But, when humanity left Africa 60K years, and we morphed into the wonderful array races we see today, did evolution only work on our bodies and leave the brain untouched? Of course not. To believe that denies the fact of evolution. IQ, not race, is the must infallable predictor of violent criminal behavior, and academic and economic success. Blacks with an IQ of 110 to 120 for example, earn the same, or more, than members of other races with a similar IQ. Issue is, fewer blacks, on a percetage basis, have IQs in this range. Regarding prision and convictions for violent crime, when IQ is factored, the racial bias myth of the criminal justice system mostly implodes. Additionally, males of sub-Saharan ancestry are 13 more times likely than Whites to have a rare version of the "warrior gene", which is associated with extreme violence and extreme aggression. No, genetics is non destiny when it comes to violence, but, as this behavior is often triggered by an abusive childhood (overwheliming due to poor mothering), we must educate. We can help each other once we look at facts, and then take action based upon facts, not PC-beliefs or desires.

EFFORTLESS & CANDID DISCUSSIONS ON RACE.
I am so glad to have found to podcast. Thank you for an honest discussion about race. I particularly enjoy the ease with which the hosts are able to dive head on without ever feeling awkward about it. I think Tanner could be better at articulating his points and listening more prior to coming up sometimes with those boring Whitesplaining quotes. Good job y'all.

    Authentic and real
I really enjoy listening to the Our National Conversation About Conversations About Race! Glad I found it. As a person of color it feels very validating to hear other people of color agree with my opinions, especially when it has to do with politics and current events.
  • EgoTrip415
    New host is wack!
Not at all feeling the facilitation of Anna Holmes. The dialogue seemed to flow so much better before with Raquel, Tanner and Barratunde. I'm hoping they switch it up soon.

    Racquel is back!
A great episode. This week's podcast give me much to think about. It, as always, give me great insight into the racism so embedded in our nation. I plan to follow up on some of the recommendations made at the end of the program. And, WELCOME BACK RACQUEL!

    Overly Smug, Lacking Depth
This is the same commentary you can hear from most liberal-based newspapers, websites and channels. There's nothing new or insightful here. It's amazing to hear the panelists cast dispersions on those who don't share their point of view, and on subjects that they don't fully understand, when their regurgitated points certainly would not spur anyone to deep thought either.
  • Hhhfiokcma
    Caring conversation
