Band Geek

46

I'm Richie Castellano, I play guitar and keyboards in Blue Oyster Cult. I also make YouTube videos, read comics, and play video games. Band Geek is a podcast where I get to combine all these things. We also have a house band that tackles songs requested by our listeners and jams with our special guests. As an added bonus, we also teach our listeners how to play some of these songs in bite sized lessons. If you like music, gear, movies, games, comics or anything in between, then get in here!

Just great... If you're a nerd and like music.
Cheers from the Midwest! I'm new to the podcasting thing and Band Geek is one of the first ones I checked out. It hits so many high points for me, what with the music stuff and the sci-fi geekery. I'm just like you guys, a musician (semi-pro) and self-professed nerd and though my theory knowledge is crap I enjoy your debates on 11 chords and flat fifths just the same. Oh Richard, where had you been all my life??? Probably in your basement honing your Michael McDonald voice. And eating all the pies. Keep up the good work, and I'll keep listening. Unless the mix is whack, then all bets are off...

    My Favorite Podcast By Far
What can I say? I'm a long time musician/lover of music/lover of funny stuff. This podcast touches on a lot of my favorite things. It's REALLY refreshing to hear real musicians playing together live; singing REAL harmonies and playing real instruments. Recently, I had two long (16+ hours) road trips, and listened to the Band Geek Podcasts the entire way. They made my time behind the wheel fly right by. Lots of laughs, great interviews, and tremendous musical chops. What more could you ask for? AND they're Star Wars nerds, too! Bonus! Keep up the awesome work, guys.

    Talking Shop
It is great to hear wildly talented people talk shop and making mistakes when they play. If you want the inside scoop on what it’s like to be in a band as a working musician you should be listening to this podcast. Definitely enjoy listening to these folks talk & play. Highly recommend this.

You love music and geeks? This is for you
This has quickly become my favorite podcast. Rich Castellano has put together a great band and collection of interesting characters. From music theory, to gamer geek (I am not a gamer, but Rich and his boss Eric Bloom from Blue Oyster Cult certainly do), to great performances this podcast has it all. If you love music, I strongly suggest you check this out.

    Great show and musicians!
I would have given this show six stars, but I bought my stars from Richies' Uncle Phil and the sixth one didn't work...............Now that's a call back, Muff.

Excellent even if you're not a musician.
I started because they interviewed Kasim Sulton. The chemistry, camaraderie and humour hooked me. An extremely talented group of very versatile musicians who happen to be longtime friends. Love the music, the conversation, and the educational parts. Bravo!

    Band Geek Rocks!
I enjoy this podcast so much! I've often wondered what rock musicians talk about when they aren't rocking. But then these guys go from "zero to full-on warp-speed" brilliant renditions of popular music requests. It's really cool to be that fly-on-the-wall during technical discussions about their instruments, whether or not it matters that Jarrod can't read music, and Ann Marie's charming vocals. They paint a fun jam session scene that anyone would want to sit in on! Keep'em coming!

    Excellent Podcasts
How refreshing to hear a bunch of talented musicians talk about everything from music, gear, touring, movies, hobbies, childhood...stuff we non-muscian- but music fans- can relate to. It's like hanging out with rock stars who are just like us! Not to mention the music is first rate. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys music and general entertaining banter.

Quite Awesome Sauce Podcast with Quite Awesome Sauce Music
I really like this podcast! I'm a School of Rock Fairfield keys player and cow (what we call those who play cowbell) and I saw you perform and mention your podcast at Best of Season at the Ridgefield Playhouse last Sunday. I couldn't play cowbell on stage because I'm not a drummer, but I highly enjoyed the performance. Then you mentioned your podcast, and being the band geek and avid podcast listener, I looked in up and have enjoyed listening to all the great music and great vibes! I would recommend it to anyone and everyone who loves music, which is why I shall rant on about in person to everyone at School of Rock. I would like to see more cowbell integrated into the band, though.
