democracy-ish

391

Democracy-ish is a podcast dedicated to fighting for democracy and preserving your sanity in a time when both are under active assault by forces committed to white supremacy and stupidity. For far too long our body politic has been viewed through an all white prism that does not represent the multiracial nation that is the United States of America. Hosts Danielle Moodie and Wajahat Ali always keep it real, blunt and entertaining as they discuss how we can achieve a multiracial democracy and cover all the ground left behind by mainstream media and seek to make sense out of the nonsense.

    Joy!
I loved hearing Danielle’s and Waj’s happiness in their voices- maybe it’s time for a new tagline.

    Straight Up, No Chaser
If you’re find that your energy is in need of an uber boost, Waj and Danielle’s breakdown gives you a clear path to where your focus needs to be to navigate the de evolution of the U.S. as you watch it disintegrate before your eyes this show is for you. They are brilliant and funny! *Absolutely appropriate explicit language used sometimes. 😄

    20 February 2023
Arab Americans may use the voting for Trump or staying home as a way of protesting the war in Israel. They don’t realize the country will then blame them if Trump wins the election. Violence against them may erupt against them for this move dis invaliding thier original thinking…

    Great new podcast for me
In these bleak times in current events and politics, it’s very refreshing to have both these individuals break down the injustices of the day. Especially with the appropriate outrage and pointing out our realistic options.

    Smart, authentic, insightful
Love this podcast—they always give me new ways to look at things going on in the world. I look forward to every episode.

Wish there show was a full hour
I love their show as well as both Wajahat and Danielle are incredible but (sorry Wajahat) I have to admit that Danielle is my favorite. She doesn’t hold back at all and always says exactly what I am thinking (it’s just that she has the mic 🙂). Anyway awesome show. You will love it if you give it a chance. Lastly, remember that I will love it even more if it was an hour.

    The Big Myth
Another must listen podcast to understand how the American economic system has failed the US labor force intentionally through the collusion of government and business. The flow of capital is controlled by government. Inflation is controlled by constricting money flow by raising interest rates. While the Biden administration tells the public that high prices are too often driven by corporate greed, the government is reluctant to use the power of regulation to mitigate profit taking. The book suggests why: Citizens United, where corporations conflate a legal entity called corporation with people. When the SCOTUS agreed with businesses, they opened the floodgates of unlimited political contributions that keep the worst politicians in power and influenced the rise of MAGA lawmakers. Ethics matter. Profits distributed through all levels of human labor was driven in the past by labor unions. Regulations that are enforced can push corporate equality in the absence of personal ethics.

    Two hate-filled lunatics
I wouldn’t wanna be in either one of their heads for a single second. Angry, bitter, and utterly paranoid. Truly demented individuals.

    Great podcast,
Love your podcast. Disappointed though to hear Danielle gushing over shaking the hand of Meghan Markle. What has she really done for women? Really? Gushing over a woman that uttered such contempt for Black women in the Netflix documentary with her husband. Professing “shock” at being considered Black unlike in the U.K. 🤢. More women doing true boots on the ground work for women than Markle will ever do.

    Yep
Bingo, u all rock. Florida was not always so ignorant, it’s so embarrassing, sad , etc. As a gay female, white, I would like to sneak up on our governor and wash his mouth with soap. It was alright back in the day while in the navy, to watch what went on in Cuba? As a veteran he makes me sick

    Strong Voices
This podcast is a fantastic place to be a fly on the wall for some of the smartest, most passionate analysis of current affairs today. Congratulations, Danielle Moodie, for your continuing emergence as a leading voice (and face) of many conversations on race, class, gender, politics, history, hope and action. I see your optimism shining, albeit shrouded somewhat some days. Today’s was an amazing conversation and I was uplifted to learn more and to do more. You’re all exactly right about Education and it’s transformative possibilities, but the campaign against it is very well advanced at this time. Also, you clearly illustrated the web of deceit and manipulation causing all of us pain and suffering, once again showing how much Americans have in common, like our recovery from addiction to the nation’s most dangerous drug: White Supremacy.

Can We win over White Women
I am a white woman who lives in a red state. However, there are many of us who are trying to bring women over to the democrat party. It is very difficult as the GOP has such a hold on these women. There are many of us who phone bank, write postcards and go to festivals to spread the word. Believe me, we are just as frustrated as you are as to why women are voting against their own best interests. My first time listening to your podcast and look forward to hearing more.

    My go-to podcast
Danielle stresses me out, her voice, her intensity but Wan makes the podcast and makes it one of my favs.

    Wan Rules!
Danielle is down too. Waj is a Cal Bear so you might discredit this review for bias, but so is Steve Bannon and he ain’t gettin’ my stars… ⭐️🌟💫🌠🎖🔯✴️✡️ And yes Siri I mean Waj not Wan or Kenobi. Thanks for having Sarah Kendzior on to promote “They Knew”. She too tries to let the light in, but media keeps shutting the blinds. Please do something for the 2022 election. Stop reading/writing podcast reviews and do something. Yes, you. I’m waiting. Now go do it. Volunteer, donate canvas, phone bank, text bank, register yourself, or friends , make plans to vote and get others to vote too. Make this podcast obsolete, but listen until then.

    Smart hosts - great content
Ali and Moodie anchor such a great show filled with quality content that fills the gap that many feel mainstream media doesn’t cover when it comes to progressive issues A great show - only critique is that I wish there were two shows a week as opposed to one.

    Love your interviews.
You have real good guests, ask so many good questions and delve in the replies. This podcast has become one of my favorites.

Hands down the BEST podcast ever
Your interview with Ms. Kendzior is off the charts amazing. And they still invite both of you on MSNBC. You both give me hope that some people in media are human! Thank you for all you do.

    Small circles
Have these two ever met a Latin person who didn’t come from a liberal arts college. Nobody, I repeat, NOBODY in our community uses the term LatinX. It’s insulting and frankly shows how truly ignorant these two are.

    Love Danielle
Edit: I love Waj and Danielle together! Thank you! This is what we needed. They have a great on air presence and give each other the time and space to convey what they are thinking/feeling. Love listening to Danielle and her opinions. She is passionate and spot-on. Unfortunately, I thought Toure’ would grow on me, but his dismissive need to play devil’s advocate when Danielle lays her heart out there disrupts the flow. I don’t know their personal relationship, but I feel like it’s constant with the need to correct her or “man-splain” and it takes away from what she’s talking about. Still enjoy and am learning a lot from the perspectives, but I enjoy listening to Danielle and will listen to her other work.

Old, White, Male, ...and loving it!
I searched for a podcast after Rachael Madow went on hiatus. I found "Democracy-ish." Wow! I was born in the very white raciest midwest in the 60's. I loathed all the white, red-neck, homophobes around me there, (including my family.) I hated everything the hate-filled white raciests croaked out everyday. I finally escaped at 17. I have been so happy to live in mixed communities and have mixed friends (and anew mixed family) ever since. "Democracy-ish" - I love it! Finally, some one's saying all the upset, angry, & fedup things the voices in head R saying. But, of course, you say it with a lot more wit & wisdom, & humor! U RAWK!

    Bring back the Black dude
Bring back the guy who did the show after Toure left. I beleive he also has a show but he was very informative and Black, which I think is imperative when discussing these issues. Non Black first generation Americans are so textbook. Unless they're getting discriminated on a daily basis on every level like Black Americans have been getting it for 400 years I don't give them much creedence.

    Love Toure and Danielle Moody!
This podcast is one if my favorites. The weekly analyses, insights, education and intellectual engagement keeps me coming back. I also appreciate who you challenge the status quo and call out Democrats and anyone or institution that remains silent while injustice prevails.

find someone who you can talk to like this
It feels like catharsis listening Democracy-ish. I’m like, yes. Totally. Oh my god, you are so right! That makes me angry, too! And another thing…. But then I’m just in the room by myself listening to two people talk about politics and culture the way I like to talk about politics and culture and, too often, not able to.

I can see both sides of this as I suffer from some mental issues however I agree that sometimes you have to push thru, Like who’s gonna pay my bills if I don’t work so quitting my job would not be feasible despite my mental health. Just saying

Great show aside from Touré’s misogynoir
The attitude Touré demonstrated in speaking about Simone Biles revealed a high level of misogynoir.
  • Kim7116
    What the F*#k Toure?
Love this podcast but this week I was really disturbed and disgusted by Toure’s take on Simone Biles. Thanks to Danielle for pushing back and raising awareness about the seriousness of mental health. For the record if Lebron dropped out of the playoffs because of mental health reasons I would support him because I would trust him to make his own health decisions. Simone Biles is an incredible athlete and yes brave to know when something is detrimental to her mental and physical well being.
  • CelloMothra
    Simone Blues…
Thank you, Danielle! Sorry Toure, but it’s clear you don’t understand the devastation of being in the midst of a Mental Health Crisis.
