This is so well done. I don’t know why it’s not rated five stars. I listen to a lot of podcasts and this is the highest quality. My heart breaks for the Smith family.

In the second episode, it suggests someone thinks they were the inspiration for the movie “Fight Club.” That movie was first a book. So that is just not true. And a weird assertion for 20/20 to make. Otherwise good so far.

Other than the extremely irritating use of the present tense to tell this story, it seems ok. But I may have to stop because I don’t know if I can stand the verb tense issue.

I enjoyed this podcast, but it’s way too many episodes and is too long. This is a tragic story that boils down to greed. So sad for the family.

I had heard about this sad story before and watched it on the news but this was a more complete story and very well done. Hearing the family and friends comments made this a whole different level for this story. My condolences to the family.

I loved how this story was written and narrated. Told with compassion for the victim and his family but suspenseful enough to keep me listening and asking questions. Looking forward to another series!

Of course, we have already have seen this story on both Dateline and 20/20! The reason why, I wanted to listen to it again was cuz, Matt Gutman said that he talked to the Killer Ed for 11 hours!! Why is that Not in this? Of course, I’m Not saying all of the 11 hours but, like an episode or two at the end or episode extras of the Jail house interviews, so we can hear what he had to say! As a crime junkie it would’ve been nice to of heard more from the killers crazy mind and how he thinks, then just a repeat of what’s already been aired. 🙏 For the Smith Family!

I had listened previously to a very short (in comparison) version of this murder; I appreciated the great in-depth details as Mr. Guttman provided. Living on the Central California coast, I was able to identify with many of the places and surfing values described in this wonderfully produced podcast. Keep podcasts like this coming!

I thought this was a really great podcast. If you like crime without too many explicit details, this is a good one for you!

Excellent podcast, think 7 hour episode of 20/20 but filled with innocuous details that coukd have been left out and made the podcast 3 tight moving hours vs a snooze fest.

Great research! A definite listen

I didn’t like this the first listen through but this time it got my attention. Especially since I’ve made plans to move onto a boat in the next couple of years. I also didn’t realize it is a current podcast that is coming out weekly so I was looking for the next episode for a minute. Now I love the series.

Truth is stranger than fiction and Cutthroat tells us the stories that prove that humans weave the most interesting webs of intrigue and deceit.

This podcast is a gem. Very binge worthy. The narrator is a true professional... no injection of personal feelings or opinions like many true crime podcasts. And somehow there are no ads? How could this get any better?

This is great!! But now I’m left wanting more - when is the next episode of the Chris Dmith story?!!!

I was so engrossed with this podcast from the very beginning. I couldn’t wait each week for a new one. Matt Gutman did a great job in keeping my interest and providing details that I could envision while I was walking. I cannot wait to see what the next Cutthroat Inc topic will be

I really enjoyed this podcast. Such a sad story, but told with empathy and facts.

The whole point of a podcast is to LISTEN. It makes me upset that someone would give this one star. The story is told in a way that kept me interested and wanting more. Matt Gutman is a great narrator. His tone and enthusiasm for each moment just works. I love the fact that there were so many episodes and they were about 40 min each. I would draw or do yoga while listening. Yes watching it on tv is always fun, but the podcast is just as good and exercises my mind and ears.

20/20 did an episode about the story and this podcast, while about 4 times the length, adds basically nothing to the story. Just watch the show and save yourself some time.

Am I the only one who can’t listen to this because of the artificial little pauses the narrator takes when he speaks? Like he’s stopping and starting every few words? So fake and affected.

Obviously terrible that there was a murder, but no intrigue..1000s of other murders or missing persons that would be better to be explored.

Story is told with a lot of back and forth, makes following it exhausting. I generally like the way Matt delivers stories on camera, I was not impressed with this podcast delivery. You’re either a podcaster or you’re not, and Matt, love you, but you’re no Brad Mielke.

Kudos to Matt Gutman and the entire team for this excellent podcast. Thorough reporting and masterful storytelling combined to create an intriguing series. Even though I lived various aspects of this story, I still learned quite a few new things along the way. It was definitely worth the wait!

I loved the show. It sure kept my interest as it was very well written. Keep more of the shows coming 😉

What happened to Chris girlfriend? When they where talking to her they always said “remember her dogs barking “ what about it ?

Matt’s ability to convey words is really quite amazing. His portrayal of this fascinating story is quite phenomenal. Suspenseful, informative and quite riveting. We have really enjoyed this podcast and the story Matt’s been able to tell us all. We are looking forward to more from this podcast.

This story was sad on so many levels and I feel for Chris’ family and what they went through. I’m always wishing it was already time for the next episode when I reach the end. I think Matt can pick up the pace a little when telling the story but other than that, I have nothing but praise for his delivery. I think he needs to do a podcast on his Boys in the Cave story. Now THAT is something where I’d definitely be on the edge of my seat!

Would recommend releasing the entire story for 5 star rating.

I gave this a chance, but nothing seems to be happening. The narrator’s voice is a little too rehearsed and clinical for my taste. Too many other good podcasts out there to spend more time on this one.

Absolutely glued to this story and savor each new episode. Keep them coming!!! My heart breaks for Chris Smith’s family.
