Wish I could recommend recent offerings!
I’m a psychotherapist and, in the earlier offerings of this podcast, I frequently recommended clients tune in and listen up! Sadly, I keep trying to do the same and for reasons I do not understand, I haven’t referred folks for many months, maybe a year. It was excellent while it lasted. Truly, so appreciated. For the body of work that is available, I recommend listening again and again. I imagine there are many important reasons the continuity of programs and offerings has not been possible. I trust the podcasters and producers in their recommendations for other shows.

    LoveD the show
Is it ever coming back? Seems like it’s become a vehicle to advertise different shows?

    Truly helpful
Dr. Nzinga is one of the most down-to-earth, compassionate and insightful experts in the field of Addiction Medicine and I love listening to her professional wisdom on everything from strategies for overcoming specific substances/behaviors to the best types of family therapy. Her firm but non-judgmental approach to real life situations inspire a sense of hope and direction for those of us who struggle with addiction or are supporting loved ones who do. One of the most practically helpful resources I’ve found online. Keep it up, Doc! I just wish more episodes were actually In Recovery content and not just ads for other Lemonada shows.

    Just The Information I Needed
Thank you Dr. Harrison and Claire! I always get something I need to know from listening to your show. I appreciate your direct and thoughtful advice on the “Ask Me Anything” episodes. Keep up this important work!

    Thank you
Thank you Dr. Harrison for continuing on with educating us on substance abuse disorder and the connection with trauma. I have heard you speak on Last Day. I have been listening to Last Day since it began. I have enjoyed listening and I am thankful there are doctors out there with your compassion to save all lives and help with recovery. I have 2 sons, 22 and 21 years old that have struggled with SAD since early high school. I am so thankful they are still with us today but we have had several life changing moments over the last few years. I have learned so much through listening and it has changed the way I look at SAD today. Would love to hear your top five books on your list!

    Insightful and wonderful
I started listening to the episode with Georgia Hardstark and loved it. I will definitely be going back to season one to learn more. Love the wisdom and advice I learned from the episode. Can’t wait to listen to more! Also saw there’s an episode with Nora McInerny which I’m really excited about.

    Grateful ❣️
I listened to Lemonada Media’s Last Day podcast and was impressed with Dr. Nzinga’s smarts and loving kindness. I am recovering from childhood & ongoing trauma as well as in 12-Step recovery for substance use disorder. I am continually impressed with Dr. Ñ & Clair as well as the high production quality of In Recovery. I’m learning a lot about myself and this field in which I’m a client as well as working in the field. I’m also so full of gratitude for the second season focus on our recovery from the year 2020 was. I lost a beloved person I sponsored in March, 2021. I grieve for her still because, as you said, we humans love hard. If she had lived to April, 2021, she would have celebrated 7 years in Recovery for substance use disorder. She taught me a lot and helped me as we walked this spiritual path together. I miss her.

The best mental health pod cast!
I stumbled on the pod cast today and have shared it with my family and friends. These episodes cover what I do in DBT class. It is free therapy. I am excited to listen to season 1 then enjoy season 2.

    Virtue signaling 101
When I originally read the description of the recent podcast episode I was thrilled to listen to the episode and hopefully find my next podcast the bench. However when the host spent the first 10 minutes crying over how she was not affected by Covid I realized that this podcast was about virtue signaling. Then I listened to the episode about being on meth and I thought that this would be an intriguing podcast to listen to and to learn about the lives of people who fall into social stigmas and minorities. However as I continue to listen I again realized that it is a bout someone that goes through a wife that many of us go through but because she was set in a richer standard she could not cope. This generation is weak and I am one of them so I am allowed to speak on behalf of my generation and this podcast made me roll my eyes.

    One of my favorites
But the most recent guest gushing about the US president “understanding grief” was just cringeworthy. I don’t understand how this rich old white politician understands grief in a way that’s so profound that it deserved several minutes of attention. It just shows her political beliefs coming through. Gross.

    Ahhhh...I feel better
I just found this podcast and binged a bunch of episodes. Dr. Harrison is so incredibly open and kind. She is so consciously unjudgemental, and it had helped me to realize just how incredibly judgmental I have been during the Pandemic and Trump administration. I think listening to Dr. Harrison will help me find more compassion for what individuals are going through during this crazy time. Claire is fantastic and insightful too! They make a great team. ❤️

    Valuable insights in every episode
I am so relieved In Recovery is back. I am desperate for insight, advice and comfort in this tumultuous time. I’ve listened to several of Season 1 multiple times. This is a great podcast for anyone who is affected by addiction; lots of learning for a complicated subject.

    Inspirational and Educational
Both those things but funny too. Dr. Nzinga Harrison brings knowledge and compassion and humor to topics that are often seen as too dark to tackle. Highly recommended.

    One of my favorite podcasts!

    Wise, authentic and true
Just a few episodes in and already hooked. I’m a licensed therapist and I have been taking notes and finding myself saying “mmm hmm, YES!” Nzenga doesn’t just know her stuff she knows how to communicate it in a loving yet honest manner. Thank you for putting this into the world!

    Disappointed in Host and Cohost
I am a HUGE fan of Last Day and therefore naturally became a follower of this podcast as well. That said, as I get further into the previously aired episodes I’m growing increasingly disappointed in the actions of the host and cohost. Host claims to be language sensitive yet finds humor in blonde jokes which I find very offensive. Cohost admittedly receives all (or nearly all, I cannot remember) her news from social media which is not even close to being inclusive of all information nor is it objective. I like the work that host and cohost are doing here but it can be done in a better way. And who are we if we are not constantly asking ourselves how can I do better/be better?

It’s right most of the time
I value Dr Harrison’s knowledge and expertise but when you said on the most recent episode that reaching out by text message to a loved one in active addiction by saying among other things, “I know you’re sick right now.....” What person wants to hear that reductive and patronizing statement??? C’mon Dr Harrison!!

Podcast for anyone impacted by addiction: everyone
I am an alcoholic in recovery, and this podcast is part of my magic formula of sobriety and spiritual well-being. The care and compassion that Dr. Harrison shows each and every episode is inspiring. I appreciate how she frames addition and provides practical tools for how to live a more fulfilling life in recovery and support others towards that journey. This podcast is for everyone, since we all are impacted by addiction. Take a listen to Racism as an Addiction to learn more. Thank you for sharing your vision Dr. Harrison!

    Wealth of Knowledge
Every episode I come away with so many take aways on how to better care for myself and my people and most importantly to have empathy for every human I encounter.

    Love this
Should be required listening for parents and humans. Dr. Nzinga is patient and brilliant and so kind.

    an amazing surprise
I’ve learned more from this podcast than I could have ever anticipated. From a scientific and societal perspective but as well as doing my own person introspection. I originally thought it was just an interesting topic that didn’t necessarily pertain to me individually but not only was I wrong about that, I’ve also found myself doing so much self reflection and research about all aspects of myself, past trauma, etc. I see things differently and I ask questions differently. This has aided in my own journey of mental health and I’m so thankful. Keep up the amazing work!!

    Essential
This show is not what it appears. You might THINK you’ve come across a podcast about addiction and recovery, but you’ve actually come across the wholesome path to enlightenment & guide to how you can stop clinging to coping mechanisms and start to discover what makes life fulfilling. Thank you!

    Brilliant AND caring
Dr. Harrison is the full package. She’s bright as a firecracker (Claire is endearing as can be too, let’s not forget) and clearly cares so much about what she does and who she does it for. I’ve already recommended this listen to many people in the field and now am just trying to figure out how I can work with/for her. Thank you!

    An incredibly useful resource
The podcast we need to help facilitate lasting recoveries.

    Loving recovery.
This is THE BEST podcast if you suffer from any kind of addiction or are affected by a loved one. Dr. Harrison eliminates the stigma. I no longer call myself an alcoholic but a person who is in recovery from my substance use disorder. She is compassionate, kind and sees us for who we are.

    There’s always something to learn
I have more training in mental health than the average person (I’m a family physician) yet I always learn something fascinating while listening to this podcast. Dr. Harrison’s understanding and explanation of the neurology behind the psychiatry/psychology helps me better understand the biological basis of addiction. Nearly everyone is vulnerable to some form of addiction (not just substances). By understanding how our brain directs our thoughts & actions, I feel better prepared to tackle my own addictions and help others navigate the road towards conquering theirs.

    Inspiring
I learn something every episode. Thank you Dr Harrison, this family physician who already treats people in recovery is a better practitioner for having found your podcast

    Nzinga is a queen!
I look forward to this every week. I first heard Nzinga on Last Day (another great podcast to check out!) and was so impressed by her knowledge and insight. I especially like the variety on In Recovery - keep up the great work!

    This is what America needs
Dr. Harrison you are awesome! In the wake of George Floyd and now Jacob Blake this podcast episode should be played to all of America’s white CEOs and executives management at all levels. And some black folk are racist too. I share this episode with everyone I know. Thank you ma’am! Q. Can racism be in one’s DNA?

    Amazing in every way
As soon as I heard Dr. Harrison on the Last Day podcast, I knew she was incredible. From being “language militant” to joking around with Claire to being honest and incredibly compassionate, she is amazing. Her empathy and humanity are palpable. Thank you for a continual reframing of addiction and what it means, and for doing it with so much kindness. You have given us knowledge, tools, and language that many of us didn’t even know we needed. Thank you!
  • ChrisSixMC
    So much compassion
Dr. Harris is such a kind and compassionate person and doctor. Found her on Last Day podcast and was excited to see she had her own. She explains things thoroughly and in a way that is easy to understand. Thank you for teaching me to separate the addiction from the loved one. I can’t tell you how helpful these podcasts are to me!

Must listen - it is a life saver
Dr. Nzinga Harrison cried when she talked about Selena’s story. She cried with compassion because Selena is 9 months not using heroin and using suboxon and her magic formula to stay in remission. Wow, she cried. Do you know what that means to a person in survival mode? Connection is the key. Omg. I love this podcast. Every pod is amazing. She gives me purpose and hope. Stop and listen. I promise you will feel armed for the day when you hear her. Doreen Thank you. Doreen

Seeing Addiction in a New Light
I first heard Dr Harrison on Last Day and was so amazed at her new and fresh approach to addiction. I now see it as an illness and feel so differently about my person’s addiction than I did in the past. It has softened my heart and opened my mind. Thank you so much to Lemonada Media for bringing us this podcast.

Dr. Harrison is such a pleasure to listen to. These episodes are engaged, thorough, compassionate, deeply relevant, and a model for talking about addiction.

    Excellent
I am a retired psychologist but I have stayed up on lots of the research. I have never met or heard a practitioner as competent and compassionate as she is. She backs up her advice with research and experience.

    Finally
I am so happy to have found the In Recovery podcast. I love how Dr. Harrison uses love and compassion for the person struggling with addiction, and separating addiction from the person. Just what this parent needs!

    Thank you Dr. Harrison
This podcast is wonderful. Dr. Harrison is so compassionate. She is very experienced in all areas of health and mental health. The format of listener questions makes the topics relatable. Her advice is very concrete and action-oriented. I have been printing out the transcripts and taking notes because there is so much good information about how to help my loved one.

    Can we clone Dr. Harrison?
Separating the disease from the person, being compassionate, loving our person, so much good stuff here. I wish her philosophy was prevalent in all treatment/recovery programs. I do believe de-stigmatizing addiction is the first step to changing how we treat those with substance abuse disorder. I recommend this podcast to EVERYONE, it is so good. I'm ready to move to S. Carolina and/or start an Eleanor Health in my city!

    What a resource!
Dr. Harrison brings her expertise and compassion to the table. I had to pause several times to go to the many resources she highlighted. Surprisingly, most of which I was unaware of despite being in personal counseling and couples counseling for an extended period of time. Her separation of the illness and person was a necessary reminder for me which I found helpful to gain some clarity and compassion myself while I’m in the storm. Thank you for this wonderful resource. I look forward to diving into all the episodes!

    Brilliant
I have known Nzinga since I was in middle school. And forever, she has been one of THE smartest human beings I have ever had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know. Before I even listened to her podcast, I just knew it would be more than fantastic and educational. She has worked so hard to be knowledgeable. She has studied. She lives her mission. She shares so much of herself, and she gives so much. You will not walk away from listening to these podcasts, with out feeling challenged, mindful, educated , and inspired!! Thank you Nzinga!

This podcast should be required for all medical training!
As a physician, just thank you! Your compassion and insight are inspiring and so vital right now. I will be incorporating many of your thoughts and frameworks into teaching trainees, and hope to further a much needed culture change in our medical community.

    Compassionate and informative
I stumbled upon this podcast kind of randomly- wasn’t especially looking to deepen my understanding of this subject. Dr. Nzinga is great at breaking heavy topics down. I love that she tells listeners not to feel judged about their misapprehensions. She also has a great “radio voice”! Happy I found this, grateful to be learning.

    Speaking
I love your show so far!! I have noticed you spoke super fast in the beginning it was hard to keep up. Now your speaking so slow you almost sound under the influence lol!!!

    Like a warm hug
The way Dr. Harrison is able to break down these topics and discuss them on a biological, physiological, social and personal level leaves me speechless. I’ve learned so much listening to these episodes and highly suggest them to anyone and everyone - to help us all relate better to each other with compassion and a warm hug. Thank you.
