Fancy a bit of craic?! Jeanie, Marie-Louise and Pauline love the Channel 4 sit-com, Derry Girls, based in their home city. We thought it would be fun to rewatch the series, and chat about each episode in detail. You don’t have to be from Derry or even a girl. Being a Derry Girl is a state of mind. Come on in!

    Great Craic!
I found the Talking Derry Girls when I was waiting for S3 of Derry Girls to premier and they’ve been wonderful companions for the last 18 months. As someone who splits their time between the US and Scotland, it’s wonderful to hear from our neighbors across the water. Additionally, I’m an amateur historian of the Troubles and it’s been fascinating listening to first hand perspectives from people who lived through them. I have tentative plans to visit Derry this summer but if that doesn’t come together, maybe I’ll see Pauline cuttin’ about Glasgow 😉

    Never Too Late
Just barely discovered these three gals. I'm a big fan of the show and started to re-watch it from Season 1 after finishing Season 3. I dont know what it is about the Irish, but this is a great show and this podcast is a great companion. Worth a listen.

Really enjoy listening to these 3
We knew Season 3 would be the final season of Derry Girls - a show that would leave its fans wanting more. What these three bring to the show's following is something very special - the additional context from people who know Derry, and their cheerfulness is really fun to hear.

    Love love love 💜
Having lived with loads of Derry people in NYC I couldn’t wait to watch the show. I must’ve binged it in two days. It brought me back to my first ever boyfriend who was a Doherty from Derry City. Gary from Derry my family called him. I couldn’t get enough of the Irish life and the show just gave me that fix I needed. I’ll be over there in august so as I started planning my trip I was thinking I’d re watch the show and then “I said to myself says I” I should see if there’s any podcasts about it. That’s when I stumbled on Talking Derry girls. It’s just so amazing hearing your stories and your thoughts on each episode. There’s lots of things I already knew about Derry and lots of things I learned from listening! I’ve just finished Episode 11 and can’t wait to keep going. I also CAN NOT wait to visit Derry this Summer.

    Top Craic!
Ah girls, this is just the best! Have listened to the first two episodes and I just love it. Great companion podcast to the series and I love the nuanced observations from the three ‘local lasses.’ Really gave me a fresh perspective on an absolute genius of a show. Being an English Catholic, the school scenario resonates so much with me. Warning though: don’t listen to this podcast and drink Coke Zero at the same time, or you may end up snorting it out of your nose when you are laughing, just like I did! Thanks girls!

    💛
Girls I love listening to you. Please keep this show going. I’m about the same age as you three and can relate to lots about growing up in 70’s and 80’s. I love the show as well and how the episodes are dissected with good humor.I listen to the pod cast at work and have to stop myself from laughing out loud. I’m from the US and by the way I’m a Doherty 😀 You’re all lovely and I look forward to a new season and new laughs . Also it sounds like you’re talking to my dad in this episode 20 🤣😂

    Class!
As a huge Derry Girl fan, I was eager to listen to a podcast that feeds my obsession. Talking Derry Girls does this exceptionally well! These ladies do a cracking job of bringing all the nuances that make the show so great to the forefront. I can’t wait to listen to more, as I have fallen in love with these Derry Girls as much as the ones on screen. Much love from North Carolina, BigDerryAir

    Love this show!
This podcast is a great companion to such a wonderful show!

    I don’t mind the sidetracks!
I love their discussions about the episodes, but I also love their own anecdotes! I’m in the US and love the series, but realized there was quite a bit I just didn’t understand because of my lack of knowledge about Irish history. I sought out explanations online, but this podcast has been the best for filling in the blanks about Irish (and specifically, Derry) culture. The cherry on top is the phrases, I absolutely love listening!

    Wonderful Pod
Aside from being a great discussion about each Derry Girls episode, this podcast is truly enlightening for those who know little-to-nothing about The Troubles. Highly recommend.

    Great Posdact
The hosts are a wealth of knowledge for Derry Girls. You can tell how much they enjoy the show. It’s great to hear how people from Derry talk about what they experienced in the 90s.

    An Irish Education
Love hearing about their experiences growing up in Ireland. I’m learning so much about what life was like during the troubles. This is a great companion to the series!

  • valiantxheart
    I love this podcast
I’m from America ( my name Kelsey btw ) and I had no idea what the troubles were until I stumbled across Derry girls from tumblr and started watching and it’s so wonderful and funny and as someone who loves history it’s so good and then I found this podcast and hearing about the show from people who lived through the troubles adds so much depth to it and your podcast is so wonderful and always brings a smile to my face.

Insights with clips of the show
The best part of this podcast are the clips of the Derry Girls show and the comments that follow. I like how they highlight and explain what the characters say in the different scenes, and call attention to what is happening in the background. i could do without lengthy stories about boyfriends, toilet habits, and other personal stuff not related to what is happening in the episode.

    Love these ladies
My podcast app suggested this podcast to me and I couldn’t be happier! The accents, wit and stories are amazing. I now know what some of the things in Derry Girls mean now, being American, somethings I couldn’t relate to but enjoyed the show nonetheless. Your personal stories woven into episodes of the show is brilliant!

    Put the kettle on
Wishing I had a cup of tea and was sitting with them as they unpack the many levels of Derry Girls . Love it , they crack me up as does the show. Keep em coming !

Might not be what you’re expecting
Well, there’s Derry girls talking but they don’t really talk about the show much. Halfway through episode 3 and they ‘re just entering the chapel. Now they’ve forgotten about the chapel scene and are talking about their own chuch-going experiences. It’s a lot like what I imagine going to a class reunion with your spouse to be like. Or hanging out in a bar where you know one of the three people you’re wirh and you have to listeni to them all reminisce about the school you didn’t go to. Most of it’s entertaining but there’s a good bit of channeling Uncle Colm happening. If you’re looking for a podcast that discusses what actually happens on the show in any kind of detail, this might not be it. The show is more of a touchpoint for them to talk about their own experiences. “A friend of mine’s brother...”

Delightful anecdotes and insights on Derry life in 90’s
Very enjoyable banter and insights into Derry Girls by 3 lovely ladies who lived in Derry in the 90’s. Music, Actors, 90’s incidents and explanations on phrasing are all shared within the context of each episode. If you love Derry Girls, you’ll love Talking Derry Girls!
