Exactly what I’ve been looking for in a podcast
I strive to be a lifelong student of the world - someone who never stops learning more about people, culture, and languages. It can be hard to find podcasts that explore the vast nuances of these topics in a sensitive, non-lecturey way. I am still working through all the episodes, but this podcast continues to amaze me with its depth and profound emphasis on the human experience. I deeply hope that someday they are able to put out more material!

    Wonderful wonders
I caught an episode on Sheikh Imam on “The Kitchen Sisters Presents” and I am grateful beyond words to the creators, reporters, presenters, producers, and crew who have made this podcast (and the “Masafat” podcast). It makes me so proud to be hearing theses stories from these perspectives and not one that is euro-centric, not of the “other” but of ourselves. Thank you, thank you, thank you. This is a precious gift and I do not think it is possible to measure the positive impact this will make on the people of the region, the diaspora and the world at large. In much appreciation for conserving and presenting the beauty and humanity of our culture, Nermin

    Essential listening
If you care about the most important issues and marginalised voices in the SWANA region particularly, but aren’t listening to/supporting Kerning Cultures, then you are missing out big-time. Yalla listen!

    Great storytelling
Great journalism with a compelling narrative. I appreciate the perspective of an underrepresented (to an American audience) part of the world.

Great stories from an underreported region
I really appreciate the efforts they put in to provide an English language source for stories we don’t normally hear.

    Re-humanizing the Middle East
In a sea of news that often focuses on numbers, violence, and big overviews, Kerning Cultures stands out in its quest to show individual stories and experiences that help reshape this region in our psyche. It’s brilliant, and you won’t be able to stop listening or thinking about it.

    My new favorite
An amazing podcast with wonderful storytelling. As a white woman in middle America I know very little of the history of Northern Africa and the Middle East. What a wonderful way to learn more. Bravo.

Great stories here, and thoughtful ideas about who owns cultural heritage. How do matters of ‘peace’ perpetuate an inegalitarian status quo namely one of continued occupation. there is also the question of access. Who will be able to access the materials if they are in Israel and who will be excluded?

    Always something fresh and new
I’ve loved listening to the stories presented on this show. Some standout favorites include the episode about the Cedars of Lebanon donated to the United States, cultural influences from Arab North Africa found in Mexico and Puerto Rico, and Sesame Street in the Arab world. The producers have a real talent for identifying and telling stories that need to be told.

i love and learn from this show
i am not of MENA descent so I have learned so much about the cultures and social issues going on in the region from this show. It’s wonderfully produced with fascinating topics and guests. I especially enjoyed the episodes “The K-Pop Wave” and “Loving Lynn” because i am Korean & Filipino American so it was really cool to see these worlds collide. You can’t go wrong with any episode though, you’re bound to learn something new!

    My very favorite podcast. Brilliant!
This is one of the most thoughtful, balanced podcasts I have ever listened to. As someone who has lived in the MENA region for 20 years (and who was incidentally born in Cairo) this gives me a whole new look and perspective into the region. Beautifully crafted and so diverse, every episode is absorbing and compelling. Thank you so much to the team for all that you do!🙏🌷

    Fantastic story telling and reporting
This podcast does the best job contextualizing the Middle East in their summaries of history and their inclusion of real peoples’ stories. Highly recommend!

    AMAZING
Give this podcast a listen! It gives you an intimate look into some of the unheard yet very important stories of the Middle East. I am the product of the Lebanese diaspora and I can’t express enough how much I appreciate this podcast.

    A unique voice
As an American, most of the media I consume presents a distorted image of life in the Middle East. This podcast is refreshing in its ability to present stories that are wonderfully produced, and make it easy to see the common humanity that people everywhere share.
  • Z-through-A
    Lush, meaningful storytelling
I would never hear these stories elsewhere. Kearning Culture teaches me so much about the world we live in. High production, fascinating stories, great editing - I definitely recommend.

    Never too late
I just recently discovered Kerning Cultures in the last few months and I listened to almost every single episode. I wish I knew about this earlier! Every story, every human being, every perspective that is shown in this podcast is an incredible one. I highly recommend anyone, whether you’re from the MENA (Middle Eastern, North African) region or not, to listen to this podcast. They’re equally entertaining, educational, and inspiring. Amazing Stories
I really enjoy this podcast. I am listening from the US (NYC). I loved Al Empire with Hamed Sinno, which is what prompted me to finally write a review. I’ll have to go subscribe to that show and review at some point. But I’ve been listening to KC for at least two years now. Some of my favorites episodes include: Resettled, hope to get an update about that soon.. such interesting insight about the arduous process of coming to the US as a refugee. As an immigrant I’m more familiar with the immigration stuff than most Americans so it was good to listen to a new perspective, every American should listen to that episode tbh. To Oslo, With Love.. OMG obsessed with this one. I have to listen to it again soon. Lebanon, USA was a cool one.. I went to look at the pictures from the trip Faraj... what is he up to now? The one about the Arabic script and typing was really interesting, something I didn’t even think about before The one about the tour guide in Beirut was also very good. I enjoyed. I listened to Featuring Eib even though I don’t know Arabic, would be one of my favs for sure if I could understand lol Ouh, the one about the descent in the cave was so good, I really felt like I was like stuck down there... The production is superb, very vivid storytelling. Good job y’all. Love love love keep it up! Thanks, Dan

Wonderful podcast fills a missing niche
I've been looking for a good English-language podcast with Middle East perspectives and finally discovered Kerning Cultures. I'm really enjoying it. Compelling, well produced stories from the Middle East and beyond. Those with deep knowledge of the region still will benefit from the context this podcast provides. Those learning about the region for the first time will find this podcast a great education resource providing more nuanced takes than you'll get most places.

Engaging and nuanced look at Middle East
First podcast of its kind shedding light on different stories on the Middle East. We need more nuanced and varied voices and shows like Kerning Cultures.
