The only horror was the terrible acting
If you were looking for something exciting and horrifying just move on. The podcast was boring with a lead character that makes every stupid decision possible while moaning about his past. Nothing exciting happens in the present and the flashbacks just reinforce his inability to make smart decisions.

Great horror mystery, hoping for season 2
Powerful story that weaves suspenseful horror adventure and deeply moving depiction of a person struggling with severe mental health and extreme isolation. Will appeal to any fans of horror and sci-fi dramas like The White Vault, Steal the Stars and The Waystation. Really hoping for a season 2!

Great for fans of The White Vault
Really liking it so far. Season 2?

WHAT is with the sound volume???
I have truly enjoyed this story - completely drawn in by the character and his story. HOWEVER, I am forever having to adjust the volume. It will start off hurting my ears, so I turn volume down, then, of course, it drops to a whisper, so volume up, then someone screams… The Q

    A striking and raw listen
Station Blue is just striking. The storytelling and acting are so raw. I felt so much and couldn't look away. I didn't want to look away, even as the story tore at my heart. It's so well done.

    Frustrating
It’s interesting to see the wide difference in the reviews of people who loved it and those who really disliked it. I was frustrated that I didn’t understand the main character (despite some awkward backstory about a demanding dad and the often mentioned ex) and he made incomprehensible choices. It’s also very difficult to do a podcast well with only one person narrating their experience into a recorder.

    i’m so confused
it started interesting enough? but good god i’m so lost i have absolutely no idea what this show wants from me? and where’s the horror? honestly if i wanted another hot ableist take of curators using mental illness to scare me i would have turned to any hollywood horror from the last 30 years! and WHEN will podcast creators learn that 5 consecutive minutes of heavy breathing and grunting and moaning isn’t good quality content? that it makes me want to rip my ears off while portraying very little story moment? listen, this show definitely had potential but it just doesn’t hit any of the marks for me. OH also this dude got his mental illness from physics which is just,,,, unbelievably tragic. simple machines broke this lad. truly terrifying.

    Poor delivery
Poor delivery. I just couldn’t get into this. The character is REALLY annoying. I’m not sure if it’s the writing, the acting, or a combo of the two. The story also moves along REALLY slowly. I held on for as long as I could but have to throw in the towel.

This person knows what it’s like…
…to go through life feeling like you were born irreparably broken. I wish this podcast existed when I was in college.

    Awful acting
So bad, it distracts from the story so much you can’t concentrate on anything else.

    I NEED more episodes
This has been by far my favorite fiction podcast and I’m constantly checking back in for updates.

    Was this horror?
I feel like I was promised horror and ended up with a VERY QUIET monologue about a guy who has made every bad decision he could have. I feel like it would have been more interesting (to me, atleast) if he had spent more time in the present instead of bemoaning the past. It's hard to listen to a podcast where you're wishing the main character would just shut up. I got to ep 9 and I can't go on.

    I hate the ending really
Come one you don’t have to end it that way guysss come on

    Really enthralling
So, I want to start off with the bad. The sound editing needs work. I literally have the volume all the way up, and can barely hear the character’s dialogue. With a show that is mostly one character talking, that’s a big thing to fix. Also, some of the setting/action is hard to conceptualize because the sound is confusing without a baseline knowledge of the set-up/environmental layout. All that said, the podcast deserves the five stars. The story captures the listener right away, and builds a story background for the character as the episodes play out. The season ends with a lot more questions than answer, but that just serves to invest us (the listeners) into the show even more. The action moved very fast at the end, and there is a real human connection to the main character. I can’t wait until the next seasons.

    I tried, it’s awful
It sounds so canned and fake. The acting is painfully plodding, sounds like others are reading in a middle school class.

    Awful
I made it to episode 4 and had to quit. The lead character’s rambling, self loathing, pathetic attitude about his whole situation was annoying. I love podcast stories, but this was terrible. His emails to the mysterious Gina. Complaining about a cut that won’t heal. Something about a random airplane that he got fixated on. After the first 4 episodes, it was a no go. I just couldn’t stomach how pathetic and lonely the characters whole life was. It just made me angry, you may like it though. Who knows?

    Man alive!
I got some good jump scares out of this. The character had really just made every bad decision but I really want to know how everything turns out if anyone comes out to the Station. Good show the character a little pathetic but he was supposed to be. Still rooted for him. I highly recommend this one if you are into podcast horror. It’s really well done.

Started listening to this, and I’m not empressed with the acting. Can’t really get into it.

    A journey into madness
I like the cold. I like being alone. Sometimes. The snow is pretty. Where am I? What am I doing? The blood is so bright.

    I love it!
I love this podcast so much! The first time I finished listening to it I immediately restarted it from the beginning. I revisit Sarah part one and two often, the emotion in the voice is just so moving. The story is great and extremely compelling, too. This is so much more than a scary podcast, and I can’t wait for more!

    Hate the main character
Leads is a moron. His best job would be a greeter at Walmart. Wanted to slap him from episode one on....couldn’t make it through episode five before deleting the series. Very disappointing.

    Way too many ads
The little of the actual show you get to hear sounds ok, but easily 2/3 of the show are really jarring commercials. They cut off characters mid word. I guess I could almost understand if they were some kind of in-universe gimmick, but that is the case. Really disappointed.

This one is for the feels.
Look when a show has trigger warnings and tells you not to drive and then you ignore that. Oh boy yeah not the smartest thing I have ever done. This show dives into the topic of depression and anxiety, there are no kid gloves here. And I adore it for that. Might be the most moving piece of media I have ever enjoyed regardless of the type. Give it a whirl, but listen to those warnings.

    Good show!
Presents a great story in a cold remote location about the descent into maddness. Or maybe it’s not madness maybe there is more too it. Volume is fine. Voice acting superb.

    VOLUME!
GUYS -- TURN UP THE VOLUME. EVEN WITH MINE ON MAX, STILL CANNOT HEAR.

    Wow (spoiler alert)
Started a little slow but by episode 5 I was stuck. I cried at the end even though I saw it coming.

    Wonderful!
One of the best stories I have ever heard! I’m real excited for season two!!

    Meh
Not horrible. Not amazing. It starts pretty strong but it crumbles in upon itself towards the end. Voice acting is awkward in places and volume fluctuates a lot making headphones annoying. Atmospheric sound effects is one of the better things about this podcast however.

    Absolute art.
So this is one of my absolute favorite podcasts right here. The fact that it very openly and respectfully deals with mental illness means a lot to me. I don't know of nearly enough art/media that deals with this subject. As someone who deals with panic attacks and such myself, I relate to Matthew's character so much. I'm not usually a huge horror fan, but Station Blue has made me rethink that and I've even begun listening to other horror podcasts because of it. (I've also bought all of the His Dark Material books because of it.) While this podcast carries a trigger warning, it wasn't too intense to make it unlistenable so seriously, if you want a piece of art that makes you feel some intense emotions, this is the one. I only hope I can achieve this amazing level of writing in my own work one day.

Exposition bogs down a potentially engaging horror narrative
The real monster in this podcast isn’t a mysterious creature lurking in the Antarctic storms—it’s Matthew himself. Chad Ellis, while undeniably gifted at word crafting and audio ambience, can’t seem to decide where our interests should lie. Is it with Matthew and his endless recycling of old memories and past regrets? Or is it with the tangental beast stalking the station? This distinction deserves to be made early on in the story. Instead we’re treated to excessive bouts of Matthew’s neurotic self recrimination peppered by the occasional bang. The circumstances which deserve the most context are often neglected in favor of Matthew’s Hemingway-esque philosophizing on reality, self, and existential dread. Regrettably, his biggest existential threat had been side lined out in the cold.

Leaves You Feeling Cold and Hungry for More
It's not often a show can leave you feeling cold and have it be a good thing, but Station Blue does exactly that. Matthew Leads has made some questionable decisions in his life and chooses to get away from it all by fleeing to an Antarctic science base where he needs to get things ready for a group of scientists arriving in the future. So he gets to spend a bunch of time alone in the Antarctic tundra, what could possibly go wrong? Chad Ellis, who voices Leads's, does a magnificent job of giving the character life and empathy. Leads must deal with his internal mental demons as well as whatever's going on at the station. The acting is incredible, the sound design is immersive and wonderful, the writing is fantastic, and the theme song is chillingly haunting. Do yourself a favor and start listening right now! Season One is all done and Season Two is in the works.

    Very well done.
Great quality production. The story is engrossing, if a bit.

    Amazing
This. Podcast. Is. Amazing. That is all! Listen to it! You won’t regret it!

    Volume
I think they are trying to purposely adjust the volume to add to the listening but the random loud noice they make every 30 seconds is enough to stop listening all together. The actual speaking goes from a whisper to screaming making it near impossible to hear.

    Powerful Storytelling
This is one of those shows that really seeks to stretch and explore just what the medium is capable of. A gripping story keeps you absorbed, and I can't recommend this higher.

Excellent scripted fiction, great audio, solid voice acting!
Can’t believe I just discovered this gem. Engaging story and great voice acting. Good balance of mystery/suspense and a little bit of humor. I’m surprised this doesn’t have more downloads. Do yourself a favor and give the first few episodes a listen,

    Episode 4 “shattered”
Is by far the most intensely realistic feeing I’ve ever had with a Podcast. It was cinematic and mentally capturing of a persons emotional state. Thankyou. I’m hooked.

Slog of a tease with no payoff
No idea why anybody would make it through the whole first(?) season of this then recommend it to anybody else. It starts off with a series of shorts that tell nothing and establish nothing, then the sounds of a brutal murder/devouring of a pilot. Then the protagonist is introduced to his new living quarters and other characters that promptly leave, and what follows is drawn out meandering monologue after monologue. Near the end the narrartor spends 40 minutes with no music or sound other than his voice telling how he met and then broke up with his only girlfriend, and although that is actually a pretty emotional and well told story it adds nothing because there is nothing for it to be added to. Listening to Matt go insane from isolation is one of the most mind-numbingly boring experiences I have ever had. I knew exactly how he felt sitting alone in my car driving with nothing but his inane rambling keeping me company. I only finished this because I hoped it would deliver on what was setup at the start but no, the ending was just as pointless and a waste of time as everything that came before it. Matt’s droll speech may have been worth sitting through if it all had built up to something, ANYTHING but this season went out on a lame whimper after dragging itself for a few hours. There is even a bonus episode that is just audio of the voice actor (I think) rock climbing. WHY IS THAT WORTH LISTENING TO?! Who is this podcast for? I hate it. I only gave t three stars because the sound design is decent and the love story that is told to us actually resonated with me, but I wished I could have dove out into the arctic winter to put myself out of my misery by episode 5. Edit: After some digging I have discovered my assessment that episode 9 is in fact not the end of the first season, just the most recent episode by September 5th. That helps a little bit but I am still lowering my rating to two stars after digesting what I have heard further. The majority of the series so far has been so uninteresting that I have no interest in what could come next. This is uploaded every two weeks, and I hope that is due to the creator being busy with other projects because so much of this is just one person speaking into a microphone without any other sound or music, what is there to edit or produce? And I am also frustrated by the other reviews that have this at 5 stars currently, many based on the trailer or the first two episodes alone. Had me coming into this with much higher hopes, but apparently my fellow listeners can’t be relied on for honest opinions.

    Excellent isolationist horror!
I am almost fully caught up on this podcast, but wanted to post my review while I had a chance. This podcast is quite remarkable in what it's trying to accomplish! It takes an individual and plops them on the edge of the world in Antarctica where he's supposed to just care of this research station, but isolationism isn't what it's cracked up to be for him, and there's just enough mysteries that he is discovering that he may not be able to stomach the answers to. The sound quality is pretty fantastic from an engineering stand point. The effects used are fantastic and listening to this with headphones in is definitely an amazing experience. The only downside is that in very noisy listening environments (think in a car with sub-par speakers driving on the highway with the AC blasting) it's difficult to understand some parts without cranking the sound up. But, that's not a bad thing in this case. Listening with the intimacy of headphones is where this podcast thrives. I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a good horror podcast in their subscriptions! It just keeps getting better and better, and I really am super curious to see where it is going!

    Oof
The amount of times I sort of relate to Leads and feel for him is just what I needed. Feeling empathy for characters is great, and harder to do with tons of crazy action in an audio drama. Not that I don't like those action audio stories, but I like to change things up. Uh, I read someone's review that it's just one dude's monologue. They're wrong. There's more here than that. An ominous feeling as future Leads details his regrets. Pity as Leads talks about his family. I remember being so creeped out and interested by that Door. Anyway, I'm liking Station Blue a lot. There's something fascinating about a human in isolation. Something wholly unnerving about being, essentially, disconnected. Makes you wonder if looking for some alone time is ever worth it.

    Gripping and Suspenseful Narrative!
This PodCast had me hooked from the very first Teaser. I binged on all the episodes in a day, and now I can’t wait to see how Matthew’s story concludes. Please keep them coming! -George T.

    I like it
This show manages to feel both extremely claustrophobic and desolately infinite.
  • InitialEnvy
So boring, just long slow emo monologues
If you want to listen to a guy monologue about grandma and grandpa, this is your jam. I kept listening because the first episode has multiple actors, but this quickly turned into a boring one man show that leads nowhere.
  • jeff_thomas
    So good
Really impressed with how this is put together. The horror is internal to the main character which makes it exceptionally scary. Love how the audience is privy to his inner dialogue with himself. This has set a high bar that other fiction audio podcasts will have a tough time clearing. Bravo!

    A favorite
Station Blue is probably one of the best podcasts I've listened to. The writing is incredible, and the sound design really makes you believe you're in the Artic, too. If you like the bitter cold, along with situations filled with anxiety and tension, this is the podcast for you.
  • 27Letters
    Atmospheric and Chilling
This show is all about atmosphere--the oppressive weight of isolation in an empty place, far removed from civilization. This is the kind of horror where "nothing happens" in the best possible way, feeding an ever-mounting dread that turns the protagonist into the architect of his own terror. There is more to come, of course, but the waiting is an exhillerating torment.
  • AylaTaylor
    Ominous and Intriguing
This show does a great job of building suspense! I can't wait to see what happens next!
