The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast

721

Childhood is finite at just shy of 9.5 million minutes. We only get one shot at it. One of the biggest decisions we make is how we will use that time. Research has confirmed time and time again that what children are naturally and unabashedly drawn to, unrestricted outside play, contributes extensively to every area of childhood development. The importance here cannot be understated. Every year we aim to match nature time with the average amount of American kid screen time (which is currently 1200 hours per year). Have a goal. Track your time outside. Take back childhood. Inspire others.

I can't like or recommend this more. Ginny is the most natural and funny speaker who always remembers to tie in the details. I'm a mom of 4 under 6 (at one time they were 4 and under) and this is the podcast I choose to listen to on my walks. I would love a book club subscription so I don't have to spend extra time hunting down each guest's books, as well as the books they talk about in the shows. Does this already exist?? After only 2 years of listening, I'm still continually shocked to realize other people just DON'T KNOW.

    The best podcast out there!
I’ve been listening to Ginny’s podcast for years and am ashamed I haven’t come to leave a review yet. Listen, this is hands down THE best podcast out there! Ginny is an incredible, engaging and thoughtful host and always has the best questions. You can tell every one of her interviews is grounded in her passions. The variety of topics she covers on this show is so impressive, but I’d say the strand that runs through every episode is living well. I know I’m not the only one to say that Ginny’s 1000HO movement and show has changed my life and impacted my family for the better. Thank you Ginny for all the work you do!!

    Changed our lives!
This podcast has changed our lives. Ginny is phenomenal and her message of getting outside, being with your kids, thriving in home school, etc has been a game changer! I never would have considered that I could home school, but learning from Ginny and her guests has given us the confidence to pursue it.

A podcast with an extraordinary impact
I am beyond grateful to Ginny for the work she does in this world. From the 1000 Hours Outside movement and its support/encouragement to get outside more, to her book, to this podcast, where the diverse array of guests bring knowledge and information into my mind that I would never have otherwise found, she has benefited the life of my family in uncountable ways. In the podcast, she’s an engaging interviewer who knows her stuff (and guests comment on this frequently). Listening to other podcasts with dry, robotic hosts after listening to this is a laughable experience. Thank you Ginny, so much of the changes and progress in my life and my family’s life have been thanks to your guests and the information you bring into my life.

    Great show
I don't 100% agree with everything on this podcast, but that's why I'm here! There's always something to learn and I appreciate listening to thought provoking perspectives. Thanks Ginny! Keep asking the questions!

    Ginny was made for this!
Ginny is so skilled in directing a conversation and pulling out the very best in the people she interviews. This podcast has been a lifeline for me throughout my motherhood journey. I feel like Ginny is a dear friend because of how much her words have impacted my day to day life. Best podcaster out there! Keep it up!

    Recently Disappointed
This was one of my top podcasts, I listened to every single episode multiple times. The host Ginny is very warm and kind and has introduced me to new topics and viewpoints. However, her latest episode with the Radical Moms, (plus a few others but I just listened to this one so it’s top of mind) was disappointing. The guests were saying that they aren’t judgemental and were upset as being portrayed that way, then they all proceeded to be very judgemental about the use of a Snoo. I understood their points of marketing being predatory to new moms etc. but the verbiage they used “strapped down on a plank” “in a straight jacket” and being pro co sleeping as an alternative was too much for me. The babies in Snoo’s are in swaddles- that’s the straight jacket and they are strapped down because it moves. I’ve personally known two families who lost their baby through co sleeping.

    Dangerous alt-right pipeline
I use to enjoy listening but she slowly started going far right winged. I stuck with it but now she’s full MAGA. I miss it when it was just about kids outside!

    My favorite podcast!
I have loved every single episode I have listened to, there are so many different topics that lead me to GREAT books. It has opened my eyes to parenting ways and ideas I never would have stumbled upon if not for Ginny and friends. Highly recommended to anyone, with or without kids!

    Favorite podcast EVER
After 10 years of teaching elementary school, years of childcare, 5 years of parenting, you have completely changed my philosophy on education and parenting with your podcast. You’ve changed it for the better! Thank you so much for altering my mind, everything you say and what your guests have shared on the podcast has resonated with me sooo so much. I believe it has helped me find my true self and therefore helped me form my beliefs to help shape my children. It has even helped build friendships with families that have similar views. 1000 hours outside is by far my favorite podcast and the only podcast I listen to religiously. You are an incredible human with tons of talent! I am so grateful life took you on this journey so you could impact so many! Keep it up mama, you should be SO PROUD!

Ginny is a Gift to Moms!
Just listen to one episode and you will be blown away by how much Ginny cares. Her guests continually compliment how prepared she is as a podcast host—and it’s a delight to hear her enthusiastic voice as she both champions her guests while also asking really great questions. Also, there are SO many episodes!! I don’t know how Ginny does it, but I’m so grateful she’s utilized her inquisitive nature to bring truly wonderful content to parents! Nothing replaces reading, but this podcast will give you the push to seek out the most notable parenting books around by giving you a conversation with authors abound.

Large family mom LOVE the content
I love that the programs are family friendly I can put on a podcast and listen in the van. Such a scope of material so much more than 1000 hours outside. Feels like the overall ins and outs of raising happy healthy children. I love all the guests and Ginny’s inquisitive attitude. I would and have recommended to many moms.

    Always so good
No matter what the topic is or who her guest is Ginny always teaches me something. As a mom and now a Grandma, listening and learning things not just for my Grand kids but for my relationship with my grown kids as well. I am a better Mom, Grandma and person because of 1000 hours outside ! Thank you Ginny

    Topics that relate to parenting
Love her style and relatability! Thank you for all you do Ginny. I never thought I would be as motivated/competitive to get outside everyday to make sure we hit 1000 hours. We have listened to lots of her podcasts and they are all educational and learn something new every time.

    Comforting Podcast
I am so thankful for this podcast that has helped me really lean into motherhood by enjoying the kids God has given me instead of measuring my days by how much I can get done and what all activities my kids are doing and participating in! Thank you, Ginny, for taking the pressure out of parenting that social media fuels in young parents!

    Perfect timing…
Discovered this podcast after listening to Ginny on another podcast. Having just had cataract surgery I couldn’t read so listening was all I could do. I am so glad I found The 1000 Hours Outside Podcast, I have been hooked ever since. Listening to the podcast is like having coffee with a good friend. Thank you Ginny!

This podcast has changed my life!
Everything about my life has changed since finding Ginny’s podcast. My little one is hardly on screens anymore and we get way more outdoor time than we’ve ever had. I feel like both of our healths have improved for the better. I’ve learned so much from her podcast, from learning what children really need to grow and thrive, to our food and our health and taking care of yourself the right way. Thank you so much for all that you do! I’m a huge fan now and will continue to listen and tell everyone about your podcast!!!

One of the most important podcasts as a parent of our time
This podcast has changed so much of how I parent. My kids are outside more, on screens less, eating healthier, reading more…I could go on an on. Their childhood is richer, more satisfying, and healthier than it’s ever been. Ginny is an incredible podcast host. She reads each book before she interviews the author. She brings quotes and amazing questions to the table so that the discussions with the author are helpful and enjoyable to the listener. My friends and I have often been so inspired that we end up reading some of the books she shares and discussing them. We are often sending episodes back and forth and discussing. This podcast inspires, encourages and challenges its listeners to do better. Ginny is an advocate for our children and our families in every way. I am forever grateful for what God has done in our family through 1000 hours outside. Thank you Ginny!

    The best podcast ever!!
It’s very rare to find a podcast where you enjoy listening to the persons voice episode after episode. Ginny has such a calming wisdom that I so cherish in these years of motherhood. Almost every single episode has given me huge takeaways, which has also resulted in me purchasing many of these books to have on hand. My husband has become a fan through me and always ends up recruiting new listeners at his business meetings!! What’s not to love?! Real life advice, relatable content, CLEAN - so my little ears can hear it while I’m cooking dinner, the list goes on! Between this podcast and the actual 1000 hours outside movement I could never accurately express my thanks to Ginny Yurich and her family ❤️

Well done Ginny & thank you.
This podcast will make you want to watch Braveheart outside while simultaneously reading a loud to your kids while eating a smoothie bowl with home grown fruit from your food forrest that contains no vegetable oils out of a glass bowl with melted chocolate you didn’t heat up in your microwave while watching for owls and not streaming on wifi so the AI bots don’t track your interest and on a non-blue light screen but not before the sun goes down all the way so you don’t pollute your neighbors with lights that will mess with their circadian rhythm :) I. Am. Obsessed.

    Quickly becoming my fave podcast!
I think I got an email in my inbox that mentioned the episode with Dr.Meg Meeker and about how boys need to be outside playing and seeing as how I have two young sons that I am raising, I was intrigued! I loved that episode! I’ve since listened to a couple more and now I am hooked! It’s quickly becoming one of my go-to podcasts!!
