amdunlapAddiction treatmentDr. Statz-DeVries’ podcast was so insightful. It is incredibly helpful and hopeful to know that there are tools to treat this disease and practitioners out there who are qualified and succeeding at treating the addiction crisis in our country. She explains addiction and successful treatment clearly and concisely in a way that takes the stigma out of it. Everyone who knows someone with addiction should listen to this.

NazorekSarahMy son Alexander Aka XoAlex 💔I was searching for a podcast recently after my son was murdered by fentanyl poisoning. He begged to go eat pizza with his ex girlfriend and her mother who I did not trust due to their involvement with drugs and alcohol she allowed kids to do drugs. He came home in a body bag and her and her mother have yet to be arrested. It’s been 1 year and 2 months I have been fighting for Justice in New Mexico. Just one year before his father who did not have custody was allowed to pick him up from school and smoked fentanyl with him. He was bribing my son after the arrest and threatening him to not testify. Let’s just say there are quite a few people involved of the set up of my son. People sent me death threats his bullies came to the funeral at the time I didn’t know they would bully me too. I wrote a book now at barnes and nobles Amazon and LULU called No Justice No Peace: the survival of a mother and son in a broken system. I would love to talk on your show one day and share my sons story. The episodes I listened to were soo emotional to know I’m not alone. I will not give up I am fighting to change laws and still awaiting an arrest and still waiting for law enforcement to test the substance that was smoked with my son her and her mother are alive and he is not. They tampered with the scene removed items off his body stole his phone and law enforcement said to file a civil lawsuit to get his items back. They don’t care in New Mexico and soo many teens are dying here 😭 my name is Sarah Nazorek if you Google me our story will come up.

laura7741SuperI did just say goodbye to my father at 85 after his disease PSP (the deterioration of the brain in a 5-7 yr process.). He was a healthy always sporty and active guy so we weren’t ready for this loss of motor function. He did his best along with my dear mom and all of us along the way, but the disease is uncurable. He gave it is best. This podcast really did Help. I will keep it. I know he is with me as you say in a new relationship. I will always love my dad to pieces, and I have his fun, loving pictures on the wall and they make me smile when I see them. Thank you Laura

Courtney_1Episode 56 with Dr. Mo is amazing and inspirational! What a storied life: I can hear her drive and passion in every word. Listening to her past and how she overcame addiction and then accomplished a Ph.D in addiction studies to further drug and alcohol prevention is truly inspiring. Diane EideEpisode 45Thank you for letting me tell Trace’s story. I feel the work Emily’s hope does and this podcast is so very important. I am grateful to be a part of it. Episode 49 Thank you Tiffany for sharing your story. The parallels to Trace’s story are there. He grew up in a house where he had the latest games, clothes, family support. He always felt judged snd worthless once he started using. Like he didn’t matter enough. I am so thankful for you and what you are doing. Again thank you so much you are a brave lady!
-
TsthoelkeEpisode 49I am so honored to have been able to sit down with Angela for this episode and have been so proud as a mental health advocate to watch how she has approached her loss. I fully support her mission and feel that she is going to make and has already made an impact in the lives of those struggling as well as those who have children struggling. Through her dedication to educating the community and the world, she is saving lives, one person at a time! It takes real strength and courage to want to talk about these things, to want to understand and to work to provide the tools for others so that they don’t have to experience the same loss. Emily would be so proud and I am so grateful to have been a part of this incredible mission Angela has set out on. Thank you for your compassion, empathy and your unwavering dedication to our community. Your story and voice matters, with love, Tiffany.

nannyjuliaDylanI lost my beautiful 28 yr old son Dylan three months ago to fentanyl poisoning. I’ve been in counseling , given so many books and this podcast has hands down been the best therapy for me . To see that other mothers lost their wonderful children to this dreadful epidemic made me feel so much less alone . My son was a hard working , responsible, loving wonderful son . I so fear the stigma of his death is what people remember him by . A charity such as this I pray will help end some of the false assumptions of drug induced death . Thank you !!!!

DaveR3103Excellent Podcast to Create Awareness of The Opioid EpidemicAngela is excellent at creating a safe space for individuals to share their stories and experiences. as someone who was recently a guest on her podcast, I can attest to this firsthand. She is doing outstanding work to create awareness about the opioid crisis in honor of and with her deceased daughter Emily and in the process contribute to the ongoing efforts to shatter the stigma that is unfairly attached to individuals with substance use issues.

HeatherYogaA Beacon In A Dark EpidemicFor most of us - myself included - the opiod crisis is not abstract. It is in our family, our home, our neighborhood and office. So many hearts have been broken, and yet so many can still be saved. I am grateful for Angela and her guests. For their fearlessness on speaking out about addiction and recovery, and addressing the difficult nature of grieving a too-often stigmatized loss. Thank you for providing the space for this important conversation to take place. May it bring hope and comfort to all impacted.

rlancemitchellPhil’s Story: What went wrongNot only is this interview a poignant statement on the failure of our addiction recovery system, but it is also an exploration into the collateral damage suffered by family and supporters of those lost in the throes of addiction. This honest conversation articulates their personal pain of loss as well as their deep frustration with societal disregard for the human toll of the opioid crisis. I have so much respect for these three brave women who share their pain and frustration in a loving and compassionate way. Ross Mitchell

StrimsaPhil’s Story: What went wrongThrough Phil’s loving mother and devoted physician, we learn about his beautiful spirit, painful struggle, and the devastating failures of the insurance and treatment systems. I learned a great deal and I am moved to learn more and to find ways to act. I thank Kate, Dr. Aviva and Angela for their courage in sharing Phil’s story. Colette

Karyn L SEpisode 35 Phil’s storyFrom the point of view of the loving and courageous mother and devoted physician, the agony of this gifted young man’s difficulty getting a foothold on recovery is due, in large part, to significant gaps in the treatment system. Please listen and support this beautiful philanthropic mission to provide needed assistance to young people caught in the web of addiction to sustain their healing and recovery.
-
FranglcswEpisode 35: Phil’s story: what went wrongAs a fellow bereaved mom I share Kate’s distraught and confusion over the loss of Phil, a gifted young man who seemingly had all the resources he needed to survive. The system is rigged against these young people due to stigma and lack of real understanding of addiction. Mother, Kate, and psychiatrist were brave to discuss the lethal flaws of the system so openly. I hope this leads to some sort of epiphany on the part it insurance companies and eventual CHANGE. We are losing too many precious people!!! So tragic!!!! My heart breaks over and over again. Fran G

Dr. DskAngela Kennecke’s interviews are pertinent, relevant, & helpfulMist people, even when not addicted themselves, know someone who is. Often it is a family member, relative, or friend. Angela’s own understanding of the horrible effects from addiction, not only on the addict but on the entire family, community & country resound deeply as she she openly shares her loss of her own 21 year old daughter, who died from an overdose of fentanyl. Angela’s interviews with former addicts and other parents who have lost children who overdosed helps listeners become educated about a major problem in the United States: addiction. Angela also interviews doctors, including psychiatrists, who understand & now help those with who currently suffer from addictions. Listening to Angela’s podcasts is time well spent.

jedie2Informative and inspirational!Thank you for shining the light on this important topic!

Humans Helping HumansImpactful and InsightfulAppreciate Angela’s ability to share her story openly so that others may learn out to live “out loud” without the shame and guilt attached to addiction/substance abuse disorder. From the addicted to the family and friends of the addicted - no one can hide from the feelings of shame and guilt of admitting there is a problem and the need for help. The stigma and old beliefs attached to addiction must be challenged so that everyone can talk openly and “out loud” so that solutions can be found. Secrets keep you sick and no one should feel like they should hide the problem of addiction for fear of what others might think or say. Live in the solution and forget about everything else. Thank you Angela for your courage and for leading this discussion in our community!

my gratitudeCourage to speak a loudI’m so thankful to Sara and Angela for living bravely and courageously speaking their truth. It is only by being real and saying aloud our own pain, our vulnerabilities that we can connect and change our own dance and thus create the change we need to see for ourselves and our loved ones and each member of the world dealing with their pain by reaching for a drug. Awesome!
