MollyMirandaGreat infoI’m a veterinary small animal specialty and emergency anesthetist - yes we do median sternotomies, thoracotomies, craniotomies, etc. in vetmed! - and it’s so interesting to compare protocol. I especially like the dexmedetomidine episode & “nerding out” discussing the pharmacodynamics. The reversal is atipamezole, and yes it will take away the MAC sparing effects. I never reverse under GA because it has the potential to cause significant hypotension. Looking forward to more episodes to come!

PharyeonMust have for NARs/RRNAs/SRNAsThis podcast has been amazing. I wish I found it sooner. The host seems like such a chill dude and likable guy that I wish I could have as a preceptor. He hits a lot of the important information that you need to know. Love the top drawer run downs!

Dom Ferro7Excellent podcast!!!I am a 1st year SRNA out of Detroit. My friend who is a CRNA recommended this podcast to me and it has been a great adjunct to studying. The podcast has helped me to learn science based information as well as a lot of practical application of concepts. The podcast helps to put broad information from the class room into real life context. Further more I have learned a lot of cool anesthesia facts that aren’t discussed in class as well as information about the profession. I really enjoy listening to topics that are in upcoming classes which works as a primer for all the new information. Thank you Jon, it is greatly appreciated that you take the time to make this awesome educational podcast.

Dbarnes2332What the SRNAs have been waiting for!I feel as if the “CRNA” world is neglected in the podcasting realm outside of a small number of podcasters. This podcast has been great for me as an SRNA to listen to on my commute to clinical! Thank you!

Happy Miriam! My favorite Anesthesia podcastI’ve listened to Anesthesia guidebook since I started school. As I progressed through didactics into clinicals now, I found an episode that provided me with valuable information. I have listened “How to crush clinicals” many times. The insight I obtained resounded in my head and came very useful as I started my first rotation. Thanks to Jonh Lawrence for his upbeat personality, and setting a great example of scholarly and optimism!!!

T_SRNAGreat resource for SRNAsAs a current SRNA still getting adjusted to life in the OR, I can honestly say that this podcast has been a lifesaver. I listen to a number of anesthesia-related podcasts but this is easily my favorite. The guests are always fascinating and Jon does a great job. Love it!

C-SavvyMy “drive to clinical” soundtrackWhen I’m not relistening to lectures, I tune in to the anesthesia guidebook for a change of pace and some fresh perspective. I appreciate the relaxed yet succinct delivery on all things anesthesia.

JasonSRNAThankful to have discovered Anesthesia Guidebook!Anesthesia Guidebook has something for everyone in the anesthesia community. It covers a wide variety of topics with interesting guests accompanying Jon Lowrance. I really appreciate Jon’s positive attitude and the content and education he provides through the podcast. His hard work and dedication are apparent, and I am thankful that anesthesia guidebook is a free and interesting resource for others. I have listened to most of the podcasts throughout the last two years. The guidebook has really provided me with wisdom, helped with preparation for applying to anesthesia school, and has great content to soak in while being a SRNA. It is great to listen to during a long commute to help redeem your time and learn more about a topic of interest while being entertained.

NSauer99Thank you Jon!I stumbled across “From the Head of the Bed” (now Anesthesia Guidebook) 4 years ago when I was a new nurse working med surg. I got hooked on the podcasts. They gave me a vision for what it would be like to practice as a CRNA. Jon’s upbeat attitude and focus on personal growth mindset and desire to continually improve practice helped me to maintain focus and drive throughout my time in the ICU and during my application process. This podcast is truly a gift for anyone wanting to explore the field of nursing anesthesia. My path wouldn’t be what it is today without it! Thank you for all the time and energy you put into making this amazing content and sharing it with the world. Cheers! SRNA Candidate (Class 2026)

Priscilla BerryAn absolute mustJon Lowrance manages to be both enlightening and entertaining. His podcast is an absolute must for SRNAs at any point in their journey. Jon has an extremely positive attitude, and calm cool and collected approach to anesthesia. As a mom of two and a wife, going through CRNA school isn’t easy, with all the pressure and impossible challenges of day to day life of an SRNA, nonetheless his podcast is a breath of fresh air that helps put everything into perspective.

UpcomingSRNAMarktAwesome content!I came across to your podcast, and stumbled initially with “from the Head of the Bed”, and continued with your latest channel. Incoming SRNA next year, and I am anxious and excited at the same time. Listening to your podcast has given me a lot of insights as to what I am about to face once I start the program next year. You cover from preparation for school, while doing and after grad school. Your story has inspired me, especially the story when you almost failed out of school and picked up yourself from that, and thrive until you graduate and be a CRNA. Please continue doing this, you inspire a lot of people! 😊 All the best!

HaleynRNAbsolutely crucialLove this podcast. This information is absolutely crucial for anesthesia providers to be familiar with. I’m regards to episodes 17-19, If you are transitioning from an ICU RN to an anesthesia student/provider- it’s important to realize that even though you may have given these medications in the ICU, as an anesthesia provider these are being given in a different scenario and you must consider the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics from a different perspective due to the fact that most patients will need to be able to emerge much quicker and medication choices must be considered on a deep level. I would recommend this entire podcast! 15/10 stars. Thank you for sharing knowledge so we can all continue to put in the work to be better anesthesia providers.
-

britanie88The list goes on!The content on the podcast is broad. There are informational episodes about the ins & outs of the anesthesia world, educational episodes for SRNAs learning content, and the guest speakers are phenomenal! The Thrive in Training came out at the perfect time and has been hugely beneficial for my start in clinicals! Jon is one of the best podcasters! He has basically ruined some other shows for me because others do not have his incredible speaking skills (teasing!). Thank you Jon for podcast. I am a better SRNA because of it. I look forward to hearing you speak at the Core Anesthesia conference next week!
-

Rik LumA must listen!I was fortunate to shadow Jon and his wife a few years back at Maine Med while contemplating going to CRNA school. Safe to say that was my day of “enlightenment” and jump started my journey towards getting into school. I’ve listened to this awesome podcast along the way and not only has the information by Jon and his guests made me a better ICU nurse, but helped me mold the mindset towards getting accepted into school. I’ll be starting school this Fall in part to you. Thanks Jon, you’ve got something special here!

Jess.Kaz.Favorite podcastAs a second year SRNA, I love this podcast for so many reasons. You can tell the Jon would be the most ideal preceptor/clinical faculty in the way he talks about his job and coworkers. The top drawer rundown podcasts are some of my favorite 👏🏼 keep’em coming!
-
future_crna_extraordinaireAwesome Podcast!I have been a listener of this podcast for some time now. Episode #67 “How to Thrive in Training” could not have come at a better time! I just started my first semester in CRNA school and was struggling to get myself together. I’m married with 2 sons, and it has been a little rough due to being tired. Thank you for being so open about your “why” and sharing your story. It gave me the motivation to get my act together and finally sit down and write down my why! I really appreciate you developing your podcast and giving students an avenue to find ways to thrive in our new profession! Thank you for all that you do!

Mark O'BThis podcast helped get me into CRNA school!I am currently an ICU RN and have been listening to this podcast for over a year now. The content is not only interesting, but also helped expand my current RN knowledge and skills. I just got accepted into my first choice CRNA school and I definitely have Anesthesia Guidebook to thank, at least partially, for helping me focus, prepare, and reinforce my decision to enter the world of anesthesia. It feels good knowing I already have a great resource to help along the way as I enter a challenging three years ahead. Cannot recommend it enough!

It gives me a boost when my mindset and motivation with didactic and/or clinical are lagging, it’s validating for me to hear about the stories and experiences of others. I learn and gain ideas about practicing anesthesia and become so pumped to be joining this incredible profession! Thank you for putting out such helpful, high quality content!!!

LLU24Episode #54I've heard all your podcasts, and they are very beneficial, with great insight. In episode #54 I was excited to hear about your relationship with Dr. Collins as he is now my dean at LLU. I shared this episode with my classmates. Hope they appreciate the podcast as much as I do. Best, Valerie

J. OtisAppropriate timingI’m thankful for this podcast while in the controlled chaos of my anesthesia program. I was always taught two things about environment and consumption; you become the company you keep and you are what you eat. Thankful for the clinical overview and endurance encouragement provided by Jon and his guests. Back to studying!

Cristina R- c/o 2024Long time listener, first time reviewer!I have followed Jon From the Head of the Bed and now to Anesthesia Guidebook! I was looking for inspiration as I tackled the admissions process... three years later- I am starting school in 2021! Eeek! I am truly honored to be joining the ranks of such forward thinking and caring professionals! This podcast has served as a mentor for me as I traversed this admissions process and I hope I will do something worth sharing on this very podcast in my career as a CRNA! Thanks for keeping these coming!
-
Imran920Bravo!As a previous listener from the head of the bed for years, it’s no secret that I subscribed. I been listening to Jon’s podcasts for years and each time I am more exposed to learning about topics in anesthesia that I did not previously consider. During my interview for CRNA school, I referenced this podcast and my inspiration from it. Keep the content coming!
-
Craig,Excellent contentSuper useful content, I started listening to from The Head of the Bed as a critical care RN dabbling with the idea of becoming a CRNA. I could connect a lot of the content with my day-to-day practice at the bedside. Now as an SRNA, hearing concise discussions of material outside of class is helping to cement concepts and broaden my exposure to anesthesia outside my program. Got super disappointed at the ending of From the head of the bed, until I realized the Anesthesia Guidebook was born! Easy to listen too, relevant clinical content, and also great human content looking at the bigger picture.
-
JSchroederCRNAExcited for the evolutionAs an avid listener of Head of the Bed, I am going to give this new podcast 5 stars. John has consistently provided excellent content and his intellectual investigation and deep dives into anesthesia content are always informative. I look forward to the evolution of this podcast!

JonLowrancethe go-to guide for anesthesia providersHey y’all, Jon Lowrance, the producer of Anesthesia Guidebook here! I know, I know - 5 Stars??? (I’m a big fan!) Anesthesia Guidebook is for providers who want to dig deep, level up and master their craft. As world renowned psychologist and best-selling author on human performance and expertise, Anders Erickson, has said: “Most professionals reach a stable, average level of performance within a relatively short time frame and maintain this mediocre status for the rest of their careers.” Don’t be that guy. (Or gal or person.) If you want to take your practice to the next level, join us. Subscribe to the podcast. Every thing we do is designed to help you master your craft and make your journey towards expertise better. While this may seem like a new show, it’s really just a new beginning. A fresh start. It’s an evolution of work we’ve been doing since 2013 on the platform “From the Head of the Bed… a podcast for the anesthesia community.” That show will stay live for the next year or so on Apple Podcasts. Many of those episodes will get fresh re-introductions on Anesthesia Guidebook (the content is just too good to let go). We’re excited about getting this new show going. Join us! Subscribe today! And send us your feedback or post a review here!
