Having lived in Portland since 1985, I’ve been witness to the unfolding political drama that has happened here since then. This podcast was eye-opening in many ways mostly because it’s the news that didn’t make ’the news’ and explains why law enforcement here is questionable

The season about Sean K in portland is well done. Sergio Olmos is a great host.

The show itself is produced very well. But I can’t wrap my head around the defund the police/ we want the police to solve this rhetoric. Witnesses at the scene are saying they’ll NEVER testify. Of course the system needs a complete overhaul, but in the terms and mode of this case/podcast, very unbalanced. I hope Laura will be able to find justice for her son.

Excellent reporting of a tragic unsolved murder in its historical, political, and personal context. Provides true insight about the current political climate in Portland.

I think this podcast was well done and told a perspective that I didn’t have much insight to. However I do not understand the view of wanting some justice but then saying they would never help the police? Police need witnesses and information to solve cases. I can’t wrap my head around those views.

Sergio Olmos and team do a remarkable review and analysis of what happened with Portland protests in 2020. Very engaging and eye opening.

This is great investigative reporting, he put in the work and got answers.

The good is, this is well presented. Sergio is clear and does well presenting the story. The content is questionable. Very biased, from one extreme view in most cases, while criticizing the other extreme view. I had hoped there would be more balance. There are no likable people in this story. None, so it’s hard to listen to a story full of hateful people. But I did, to hear that perspective. But the hypocrisy is overwhelming at time. It’s like listening to main stream news channels, only posting what they want you to see, to further their politics. Too much time trying to present your actions, including the host, as honorable, but not criticizing the extremes on your side. There are small numbers of extremes on either side of this argument, but this podcast mostly focused on one side, and justifies the other side who do the same. All while acting innocent. This is like a divorce, where each side vilifies the other, all while ignoring their own bad behavior. And thinking only their view is the right one. Confusing at times. Questioning why a cop doesn’t have a solution for the problem, while the whole podcast is saying ignore anything the cops say. Why isn’t up to the citizens to solve violence? We are the ones starting it, for the most part. Why question why their are no police present at one protest, then complain when they act on another. Something about cake and eating it too. We surpassed a billion dollars in property damage, BEFORE the Jan 6 nonsense at the capital. How did a billion in damage help the country? But hey, let’s brag about breaking windows, giving credit to a guy for the idea. Fighting “fascism” by being a fascist yourself is perplexing. Anyway, I listened, it was presented and produced well, but the view is so blind to the whole story, myopic, that it is hard to take it serious. And maybe find likable people, or don’t present them as so hateful if you do find them likable. I listen to murder podcast that have more likable people than this one.

Compelling but on the whole, I find this coverage unbalanced. There’s plenty of problems at both extremes and the amount of damage done to downtown Portland during the 2020 protests was glossed over. Also, some of the background music is quite intrusive.

i can’t believe this isn’t getting more attention?? this is such a relevant, nuanced story about (but not limited to): a mother’s heartbreaking journey thru grief, corruption in law enforcement, Portland’s dark, racist history and the groups that formed to combat it, a thoughtful, non-naval-gaze-y take on extremism on the right and the left and it’s consequences, all told thru the vehicle of *literally* an unsolved murder mystery! like, what more do you want, people?? don’t listen to the fascist weenies in the reviews/comments (or ever), this is full of impressive and thorough local, on the ground reporting and super immersive archival. and amazing music! also, just want to say, Laura is such a fascinating person/subject/tough cookie—my heart really goes out to her. really can’t say enough good things about this. hats off to the reporters and producers!

Parts of season 2 have given me chills. The Portland area is home and I hadn’t heard lots of this before.

Really worth listening to!

It’s a great story, really heartbreaking at times.

This podcast is captivating on how messed up these people are. The mom is a joke. Her son is dead because she was a horrible parent. She thinks so much of this is funny… keep laughing mom don’t give a crap about your pile of a son.

Sergio Olmos decides to do a "both sides" narratives to a young person's death by platforming fascists who participated in his murder. This is why anti-fascists hate liberal press, y'all work with fash.

Joey Gibson is not a “conservative” and should never be given airtime to openly lie about what he did and what he advocates.

Not a fan of the Portland drama kids protest. Sounds like an adrenaline high. Go to school. Graduate. Don’t sell out. Effect change from within.

All the excitement of a true crime thriller with real insights to the state of the country. Can’t wait to hear what comes next!

The events that unfolded during the Iraq war as a person in my twenties then shaped my political views thereafter. We must not forget these grave mistakes. Excellent work by those that put this podcast together.

Well-researched and well-presented podcast. Difficult to imagine a bigger, more foolish thing than the Iraq War. The mix of hubris, naivety and ignorance that led the west to destroy Iraq is shocking, and this podcast is a worthy reminder.

The UK perspective was very insightful. So interesting to hear the political navigation that occurred.

I started the series knowing we entered the war on false pretenses, but I had no idea how false until listening to 'Fault Line'. Excellent and thorough research. The interview clips sharing relevant first person experiences add so much.

I have come to the end so grateful for the experience. Although I leave even more troubled than when I started, my vision is clearer and my heart is heavier. Thank you.

This is the exact podcast I’ve been looking for. When we went to war I was only in middle school, so getting factual information now is imperative to my growth

I think the title says it all. I disagreed with the war at the time also. I am not a big Bush fan but he did the best he could at the time with the information he had. EVERY administration has an agenda and a strong belief in that agenda. It’s always going to be difficult to challenge that agenda.

I wonder if it will be worth it? Great job on the cover art!
