    Tim’s Misconduct Revealed
An independent investigation by GRACE found—among many things—that Whitaker “committed behavioral misconduct in the form of verbal, nonverbal and physical acts that were improper, including a lack of self-control, controlling behaviors, and holding double standards.” This report has been released and Tim has called other influencers to control the narrative, and also called an reporter to intimidate him into changing his article. After creating finsta accounts to deride the reporter, calling him a tabloid reporter, intimidating communications to the victim from the board, and other ongoing acts of misconduct, Tim and TNE are seeming pretty similar to the Trumps and Driscolls of the world. Power corrupts.

    Church Trauma All Over Again
Disappointed and deeply concerned. The way Tim had handled the abuse allegations makes everything feel like church trauma all over again. Minimizing survivor voices, bringing in a biased mediator, and avoiding true accountability. Read the GRACE Report and decide for yourself. Survivors deserve better than this.

    Salve for spiritually wounded heart
I’m so thankful for the incredible work Tim, April and TNE does. TNE is a soft place to land for those who have been through the dogmatic, hypocritical machine of evangelicalism. It’s incredible to know other humans of other spiritual & non-spiritual backgrounds who believe in taking seriously Jesus’ words about service, love, justice & mercy especially in light of the hatred political Christian nationalists are spewing every day. The focus on non-dehumanization & unity is the salve our world needs. There is a better way forward & I’m excited to see TNE be a part of this movement.

    WOW
TNE insta and pod has literally walked me through deconstruction and I could not be more grateful. Will always be a supportive listener.

    Saved my faith
This podcast helped save my faith and helped me find a new path forward to following Jesus. I look forward to this podcast every week. If you are questioning what happened to the faith movement of your childhood as an evangelical, this helps you understand how and why we are where we are.

    Refreshing
Such a healing space for Christians wanting to move beyond institutional religion to an authentic relationship with God!

    Thanks for telling the truth!
The truth seems to be non existent at this time in our world. Thanks for being brave enough to tell the truth in these uncertain times.

    Ehhh
I checked out The New Evangelicals hoping for thoughtful critique and nuanced discussion, but it’s clear they’ve simply swapped one form of dogma for another. They went from the cult of evangelicalism to the cult of woke, peddling left-wing propaganda completely untethered from reality. The co-host, April, is especially insufferable—she embodies the worst traits of intolerant liberalism, shutting down any perspective that doesn’t align with her own. It’s a shame they have such a grip on the deconstruction space because their approach is more about ideological purity than genuine exploration. If it weren’t so damning, it would almost be funny.

I am so grateful for Tim & April & resonate so deeply with what they share! Wanted to share an action of contacting appropriate congress people at 5calls.org which lists many of the issues discussed on TNE w/info, script & contact info for appropriate contacts. Calling works & using our voices feels empowering in the midst of all the efforts to dismantle our government leading to great harm.

    354: TNE RECAP
Dr. Carnahan’s perspective of historical Christianity uncovers the development of Christian theology from its earliest beginnings. One thing that he did not mention was the effort to standardize what the Christian church believed. In the 4th century, at the council at Nicea, the leaders in the growing movement, wrestled out what we know as the Nicene Creed. This would probably be accepted as the core beliefs in orthodox Christianity. The creed is read in “mainline” (versus conservative evangelical), Roman Catholic, and Eastern Orthodox churches. A good reference text and an easy read is Phillip Cary’s book The Nicene Creed: An Introduction. An interesting but not an easy read regarding the earliest beliefs of the emerging Christian movement is by Burton Mack titled The Lost Gospel: The Book of Q & Christian Origins.

    One of my Favorites
Thank you so much Tim, for all that you are doing for those of us who are coming out of the basement. This podcast has been such a lifeline for me. I love the addition of April, too, and her book is amazing!

    Decolonizing our Faith--excellent podcast!
The recent podcast on decolonizing our faith, with the Christian leader from India who now lives in Canada, was a much-needed and insightful discussion. Christians need to hear this. Thank you, Tim. --Cory

    Recap 12/6
The Affordable Care Act was actually a compromise on what Democrats tried to get passed. Obama wanted Congress to pass a Medicare type healthcare for all people. The majority of Democrats were in favor, however, there were a few “blue dog” Dems and all republicans that made that impossible. So ACA was designed as a compromise and modeled after plans that existed in Massachusetts.

    Excellent! 👍👍
I love this podcast! Tim is an incredible host. I didn’t grow up in the Evangelical church, but I did grow up in a very traditional, conservative Lutheran church. Once I started attending a nondenominational church I began to realize that I didn’t necessarily agree with everything my church growing up believed. This podcast is a feel good one for me because it helps validate my own deconstruction of faith and provides a safe space for me to explore that without judgement and pressure.

My lifeline through my faith deconstruction
After beginning deconstruction mid-2019 and then watching evangelicalism spiral during the pandemic, I felt so very alone. No one in my family or friend group really fully understands what it meant to unravel an entire lifetime of toxic doctrine, or they flew through deconstruction and can’t relate to the journey it has been for me. I am so grateful to have the New Evangelicals as a sympathetic group of “friends” who put words to a lot of feelings I’ve been having over the last few years. Thank you for the work you are doing, Tim, April, and guests. You are so appreciated.

    Keeping it real
Thank you, Tim, team, & pod guests, for speaking the thoughts, truths, and feelings that are difficult for some of us to verbalize. I fear if I tried to put into words my anger, confusion, and downright disgust over what has happened to the church over my lifetime, it would mimic a Trump word salad. There’s so much. I think often about how I walked the SBC walk with blinders on for many years. It took tragedy to shake me to the core and cause me to step back and dissect the whys of my faith walk. Your work is helping me figure things out. Much appreciated.
  • LizzyD8
    Good Work
As someone who has reassessed my faith seriously, set some things down and picked up some new things along the way, The New Evangelicals has been a voice saying “you’re not alone”. My faith is a true, beautiful representation of my journey and I really have appreciated the representation that TNE brings to counter the narrative that people just deconstruct because they want to sin more.

    Thank you TNE!
Grateful for the work you are doing both in and out of this space. These podcasts are not only informative….but have given me a sense of hope for a better way forward….and it doesn’t hurt that there are many moments of hilarity and relatability along the way! Thanks for all the time, energy, passion and research you actually put into this- it is evident and appreciated.

This podcast is very enlightening and informative. Great guests and topics that are timely for the election.

    Excellent Podcast
The TNE podcast has made navigating through this year’s messy election & news cycle so much more palatable, especially with regards to anything where politics and religion are mixed. As someone who identifies as Christian but is no longer into the organized aspects of church (raised Lutheran, but with some knowledge of Evangelical churches from friends), it’s been refreshing hearing affirming viewpoints that prove being Christian doesn’t mean you have to identify as conservative too.

    Inspired my growth
This podcast is a regular for me as I work. It has encouraged me as I already was re-examining my faith heritage. Thank you to Tim and the team for the thoughtful episodes. The recaps with April Ajoy are my favorites.

A challenging and thoughtful Christian podcast
I had always been a conservative Christian seeing black and white until the last 8-9 years. Many things have challenged my views and TNE does a great job of helping me see another perspective in a very thoughtful way. Please keep up the great work!

    A must follow
The TNE podcast and staff are the real deal. I had been searching for something like this when I thought I was alone. 100% authentic. Zero dehumanization.
  • jenpt716
    Breath of fresh podcast air
I grew up Southern Baptist, being taught literal interpretation of Scripture, original sin, and eternal conscious torment. I spent years studying the Bible, the history, the original language, and became freed in the ever-deepening understanding of what it means to truly be a Jesus follower and what the Bible says (and does not say). I feel seen and validated with this podcast. If you’ve been told, “We don’t ask those questions” but still want to ask them, you’re in the right place. Keep asking!
  • alexpicchietti
    Good Intentions…?
Many people are broken by the church. And it’s devastating. But this movement is not the answer. We must rediscover God’s good Law, understand our utter failure to live up to even a single word of it, realize our desperate need for a Savior, and receive the Gospel for salvation. The failures of sinful men does not change God, and should not change our mission as followers of Jesus. Unfortunately TNE does not view God’s Law rightly, and therefore, have replaced Christ’s Gospel with their own.
  • Gadget Robo
Just another bitter deconstructionist “Christian” podcast who can’t get over their “feelings”
Honestly, sad. Like really sad. Politically speaking, anyone christian that votes for a pro-choice candidate is just misleading people. If i were these hosts, i would reexamine my heart.

    Renegotiating Faith
I’ve followed TNE since early 2020 as I started renegotiating my faith and trying to move forward as a better person in the world. From fundamentalism to completely outside Christianity, and back again, I’ve always felt safe, respected, and loved by this community.

    TNE’s original lesbian
I’ve been a faithful listener since the week of the first episode. This is the only podcast where I’ve developed real friendships through the work that they do in their non-profit. Being given the space to be myself, I’m forever grateful that Tim got momentarily brave enough to stand up and say his truth out loud. Without people like Tim, cis white men who have NOTHING to gain by saying their truth, systems of oppression and power will continue to be pulled down by grassroots organizations like TNE. The Facebook group, the zoom book clubs and zoom conversation circles, theology 101. The list is long. I know I forgot something, but there is something for everyone, no matter where they are on their deconstruction and decolonization journeys.

    Jumping ship on this one
If you’re seeking to find another understanding and you’ve come from a conservative, legalistic place where you saw true and right things being lost in: -whole groups of people being painted with a reductive broad brush -guilt by association -obnoxiously confident speaking with authority -two things not being able to be true at once -self-appointed, mocking judgement of others hearts You will get that here too.

He’s using “Christianity” to make partisan statements and gas light those who don’t have the same views.
  • H-S'les
    Thank You!
Tim and TNE have done an incredible job of helping me navigate the ways that the political landscape has impacted Christianity. I live in a very Republican state, and it was very isolating early on to be one of the voices in opposition of America’s trajectory, while still valuing my faith. Thank you for elevating the voices that need to be heard, and challenging our way of thinking.
  • Wildabeast411
Cultivating a Community of Love and Diversity
Thank you Tim for creating a space where exploration of the house of the Christian tradition is encouraged. Too often in my own experience I have seen what should be taken as a lane change within the tradition be treated as an exit ramp. Suddenly people find themselves being told that they can’t live a life of faith and love for Jesus and the world because they can’t justify the idea that, for example, God who is Love will torture people for an eternity. It is a shame, because there have always been rooms in the Christian tradition that, for example, teach apokatastasis or use a spiritual reading of a text that seemed prima facie to feature a sub-Christlike portrait of God (e.g., Old Testament violence). It is a shame because rhetoric that attempts to boot people out of Christianity for their violation of historically idiosyncratic constructions of “orthodoxy” hurts people and tethers love of Jesus to opinions which, in reality, a Christian may accept or deny. Keep up the charity and integrity of your discourse; it is desperately needed.

    Truly an important conversation
  • itwasntmesir45
    Bizarre message
This is not a Christian podcast. It spouts hate towards conservatives and the hosts lack any sort of love and acceptance towards fellow Christians. What a strange and hateful show as it demonizes good people and is clearly satanic while pretending to be Christian I guess to mock or falsely represent the love of God. Ewww how evil. These people need forgiveness and will see how the prideful will fall....

Finally I found a discussion on this topic!
The October 25, 2023 episode addresses issues I’ve had questions about for YEARS. Thank you! And thank you for the respectful and level-headed way you approached a very difficult but timely issue. I learned so much!

    Thoughtful podcast addressing important issues
I’ve been “deconstructing” since before there was a term for it. One of many things about the evangelical tradition I grew up in that never made sense was all the nationalism. So much nationalism it was sometimes hard to tell where patriotism ended and faith began. Dobson, Christian Voter’s Guides, Rock for Life, Crisis “Pregnancy Centers”… But I digress. Tim and the team do an excellent job of covering the important discussion we need to have about Christian Nationalism and the role evangelicals have in the growing attempts to establish a straight, white supremacist, patriarchal theocracy. But he does it with grace and emphasizes the importance of not dehumanizing people. Keep up the good work.

    The New Format
This was one of my top 3 podcasts for several Months, right up there with Straight White American Jesus, however the recent changes are not just annoying, but seem contrived and a little confusing. I think the working hard to “fit in” with the new weekly themes has diminished the quality of the content so much that it’s absolutely not the first podcast I reach for any more. So disappointing. Down from 5 stars to 3.
  • DivergentBird
Universalism is directly in opposition to Jesus’ teachings…
This podcast directly refutes Christ but asks as satan did, did he really say or mean the way is narrow? Did Jesus really mean the only way is through following him? He most certainly did and this podcast is most certainly not Christian.
  • bGuiles
Who has time? (The first 7.5 mins are ads and requests for donations before ANY content?)
The first 7.5 mins are ads and requests for donations before ANY content? Since I lack such time and interest, I must move on while wondering how worthwhile is the actual content. But then deduced it is not worthwhile or worthy of subscription just by perusing an episode description and reading the laughable, if not for being so offensive, claim that Good Friday “represents the idea of divesting power for the good of others” (not verbatim). Ummm, excuse me. ☝️ Good Friday does not represent any mere idea. What psychobabble nonsense. What Good Friday “represents” or, more accurately said, literally marks is the monumentally crucial historic event of Jesus Christ’s crucifixion, with all of its actual not ideological and ineffably profound historic consequences as specified explicitly in scripture, of which divestment of power is definitely not one.

    Love the approach
If you have wanted a place to process the broad experience of humanity within the realm of evangelicalism but without the dehumanization of either right or left, this is the place for you.

    Positive Change
This podcast explores so many crucial topics related to the positives and negatives of evangelical Christianity, and promotes positive change and better ways forward that center loving and including all people. I have learned so much from The New Evangelicals and highly recommend all their available content, including this podcast! Love their Instagram and YouTube channel as well, check them out!
