    THIS IS THE BEST
This is crazy good I love it me and my older siblings use this podcast to fall asleep every night I’ve literally listened to ever story twice this is the best for sleep and just to listen to while chilling around thanks Elizabeth ❤️

    Love this podcast!
I have yet to hear an entire episode of The Sleepy Bookshelf, as I fall asleep so quickly listening to her soothing voice! I had checked out audiobooks from our public library to help me fall asleep, but their voices weren’t always conducive to sleeping, or I’d get too invested in the story. But with this podcast, I know her voice is perfect and I’ll get a recap of what I missed in the next episode. It works wonders for me!

    Awesome
Love the Sleepy Bookshelf. Her voice is agreeable and soothing. Less advertising at the beginning would be nice

    Love!!
Thank you for this podcast! I look forward to sleeping now because I love “reading” these books with you before I sleep. Please consider doing John Steinbeck’s Cannery Row or Travels With Charley. Thanks!

Thank you for what you’ve built. I’ve only just discovered the world of sleep podcasts and find yours to be theee most comforting and soothing. I’m a long time insomniac and your work is new and lovely medicine.

    Thank you
Love Sleepy Bookshelf. Your Presentation is wonderful. And your voice soothing Could you possibility consider reading Age of Innocence and more books by Elizabeth Gaskell. I love that you do read the entire book and then the recap. Thank you for sharing

    The ads ruins the podcast
I like the narrator’s voice but the entire point of this podcast is to help one drift off to sleep and in between episodes are the most obnoxious ads which ruin the whole experience.
  • comomalolo
Helps me sleep or keeps me company
I only gave four stars because I pay for Slumber Studios premium but occasionally get the version with ads in my feed. Like today/ Elizabeth’s voice is so restful but she also portrays the different characters quite well.

    Incredible voicing!
Elisabeth portrays all the characters convincingly and somehow balances compelling and calming storytelling . I’m deply grateful for access to classics I’d missed as well as favorites enjoyed anew.

    Sense and Sensibility
How can this podcast get the listener through part 22 and then require of them to be a subscriber in order to hear part 23? Of 25. Very frustrating.

    RE-DO OR REMOVE THE ADS!!
It’s impossible to just let the podcast play through to the next episode because the ads are SO UNBELIEVABLY LOUD and obnoxious. Understandable that you have to have ads, but why not just record them in a soothing and quiet voice? Some of us would like to listen to more than one episode without being SCREAMED at in between.

I go to sleep within 10 minutes
I have a hard time falling back to sleep. Elizabeth has a soothing voice which works like magic. I like the stories and the way she portrays each character.
  • Resalovestimetravalfiction
Even if I wake up, it puts me back to sleep
I wake up every hour during the last 4 hours of 8. As long as I don’t start thinking about real life, then I always go back to sleep within 5 minutes. I like the male voices better. I also like descriptions of country side and nature. Main reason I re-listen to Journey to the Center of the Earth. Please Consider reading one of Jack London’s books. Update- The Enchanted April is my new favorite. Typically go to sleep during episode 1 or 2 but I have listened to all the episodes to hear the story. Another suggestion is a Room With a View. Many characters so would be a challenge.

    Saving the Night
Thank goodness for this app. It has put me to sleep on many restless nights. Sometimes I don’t even get past the recap. Elizabeth has the perfect soothing voice for reading the books. I would hate to meet her in person; I might fall asleep mid conversation.

    Love this podcast!
I’ve been listening since the beginning and I love this podcast. Elizabeth’s voice is so soothing and I couldn’t imagine anyone else telling the stories. People complain about the ads, but since they’re at the very beginning, they’re very easy to skip. They aren’t much of a problem. I would totally recommend this podcast to anyone who’s searching for something to listen to as they’re trying to go to sleep. ❤️

I cannot go to bed without a great podcast this is just the thing I need every night. I hope Elizabeth is awarded best podcast award, if there is such a thing.

I fall asleep so fast it’s ridiculous!
Thank you, thank you for this beautiful podcast. I had trouble falling and then staying asleep mixed with some pretty bad dreams. This podcast has fixed all of that- Plus so many other podcasts skip around on stories. I love that they’re complete on here before moving to the next. I am tempted to listen when I’m awake because Elizabeth’s voice is just so beautiful and she does the voices so well and I love the storytelling. But I don’t want to ruin what’s working. So the recap at the beginning helps when I just am too close to finishing to start from where I left off. Which isn’t far each time lol. Anyway thank you again!
  • its not my favorite
I love it IDC what anyone else says
I haven’t even finished the part one of 25 but I already love it is amazing
  • the cat feeder
    Ehhhh
Good podcast, but honestly, two premium seasons in a row? And a long one? I have to go to other channels just to have something to listen to at night!
  • makeupmyname
Zzzz but not in a good way.
I know “The Great Gatsby” is considered a “masterpiece.” But compared to the works by and about women on the podcast, I think Fitzgerald’s novel seriously pales in comparison. A snoozer actually. I hope Elizabeth sticks with the women. MUCH more rich and nuanced!
  • HJLouis
    Thank you
Your podcast is amazing- such a beautiful, peaceful voice and the stories are wonderful. Thank you, thank you, thank you 😴😴😴

    Ruined by the Ads
This podcast was perfect. The host had a soothing voice and the stories were easy to get lost in. But apparently enough people started listening that they thought they should milk some money out of it. Now the ads are so loud and jarring compared to the rest of the episode that it’s impossible to fall asleep to. Yet another sleep podcast thats shunted it’s fanbase for some sponsor dollars. A complete disappointment. I hope you can sleep better at night than I can now that this podcast has been ruined
  • myodharm
    Fabulous
Absolutely wonderful! Great to help me fall asleep almost immediately. I hardly hear any of the stories so I also listen during the day. Elizabeth’s readings are amazing. Her ability to voice the characters bring the stories alive, while at the same time is so soothing.
  • tacocat25
    Love this show!!
This show is amazing. The book choices are good, and Elizabeth’s soothing voice sends me to sleep in seconds. The ads at the beginning are no problem, just fast forward a few minutes! Recommended reads: the rest of the Anne of Green Gables series

Best podcast ever for relaxing, falling asleep
The Sleepy Bookshelf is my favorite of the many podcasts I’ve tried to help fall asleep. Elizabeth’s voice is incredibly beautiful and soothing. It’s so easy to drift off listening to her read. I love listening to many of the classic books but I’ve especially enjoyed “Villette”and other LM Montgomery books. Sometimes it takes me forever to finish because I fall asleep so quickly I have to listen several times before coming to the conclusion. Your podcast has helped me through many otherwise sleepless nights. Highly recommended and very much appreciated!
  • rainbow_809
    One of my favorites!
This is one of my favorite podcasts! It would be my most favorite but some of the stories are so old that I lose track of what they are talking about. I love Elizabeth’s voice! She does a phenomenal job reading!

    The ads are ruining it
This was my favorite podcast but the ads are so loud and obnoxious, I don’t enjoy listening. I understand ads are necessary but the ads that play are not the right vibe for sleep, they jolt you awake with your heart racing.
  • marketpop
    Villette
The best book yet! The best podcast there is. Don’t miss it!
  • cdhjohnson
    Love this
This I have followed, it helps calm down
  • RebeekaV
    Please fix Vilette ep 34!
It’s literally just the intro and ads and nothing else?!
  • susan4now
    Love Villette!!
I loved this story so much, I went to the library and finished reading it this past weekend.

    Best Bedtime Stories
The cadence, the soothing tone of her voice, the stories and manageable ads make this my favorite/must listen to podcast before bed. The ads are front loaded, so you are good-to-go after quickly skipping through. No need to worry about random ads popping up at intense volume levels. Thank you for that. Recommended reads: anything by Judy Blume or Lonesome Dove. Mix it up.
  • LizW-Olsen
    Awesome awesome awesome!
I have no idea how Elizabeth manages to perfectly render the voice of Lucy—while also masterfully rendering the voices of completely different characters, such as Dr. John, Dr. John’s mother, Ginevra Fanshawe, Madame Beck, and many others. She does such an amazing job, it’s like I’m there, I can see the characters, particularly Dr. John. How does Elizabeth portray both women AND men? I have no idea, but I am grateful to have these stories, as they are enriching my life. I appreciate that she chooses truly excellent literature. My only issue is that the stories are so good and her reading so good, that if I have to get up early the next day, I can’t listen to them, because is possible I might try to stay awake so I can hear till the end of the episode—and then maybe stay awake through another! But this is a good problem to have! I now look forward to bedtime, whereas I used to dread it, because I dreaded a recurrent, agonizing wakefulness.

Great for going to sleep - This is a real winner!
Elizabeth’s voice and cadence are really good! I would not have thought that somewhat scary stories lime The Hound of the Baskervilles would be a good go to sleep story but she makes it a great one! I often have to replay the second half of episodes because I dozed off in the middle. I also like that she has new episodes every 2-3 days so you don't have to wait a week for the next episode.

    Asleep in minutes
I’ve yet to make it through more than a few minutes of any book on this podcast. It puts me to sleep so fast.

    Loud Ads Ruin Experience
I have listened to and loved this podcast for about two years and recommended it to everyone I know. I hate to have to give such a low rating, but the loud ads at the beginning of the episode are a complete turn off for me. To go from Elizabeth’s soothing voice to the super loud advertisements is jarring and throws off the whole listening experience. I understand that ads are necessary for the free version of the podcast, but if there’s a way for them to be read in Elizabeth’s voice, which was done in earlier episodes, that would be much better. Until then, I’ll have to find another podcast to help me fall asleep at night.

    Wonderful Podcast but Loud Ads
I absolutely love this podcast. The book selections and the narrator are wonderful. I get that ads are necessary for the free version of the pod, but they’re SOOOOOO LOUD 😣😣😣. It’s very startling when you’re listening to more than one and just getting to sleep.
  • Ally bah
    Ads!!
It used to be my favorite but the ads are so loud they startle me awake. Ughhhh!
  • JanaZhu77
Love it but u gonna admit the irony here
If it’s a bookshelf and reading a book to you, you are supposed to listen through the book right? Then it’s sleepy bookshelf and they have done such a good job and I fall asleep so fast. You gonna admit the irony here and laugh about it! Hahah don’t get me wrong I love this show. Just there goes my wish to maybe listen to a bit more books hhh
  • AJaxc
    Oh my!
I love this podcast! It always does the trick when I can’t sleep! Your voices on the Anne stories are incredible. I have listened to each over and over! 5 stars for quality I was sad the last little bit when third party ads returned to would startle me back awake. Totally get the need but their tone doesn’t match the show. Maybe do like Get Sleepy and read the ads in your beautiful voice! 😊 Win/win.
  • GracieLou10
They added ads & they are LOUD!
I used to enjoy listening to this podcast. The host has such a soothing/calming voice. I hadn't listened for a bit & just came back to it. What an unpleasant surprise to find out that there are now extremely loud ads at the beginning. It is a very unpleasant jolt & ruins the experience. If they want to generate income on their podcast it would be better if the host read them herself in the same tone & at the same volume as the rest of the episode.
  • SusanC89
    Lovvvvee this podcast!
It’s so hard to find something to sleep to. I used to listen to Get Sleepy but most of their content is paid. Other podcasts have too many ads or just are designed for sleep. I’ve never made it through an entire episode of this podcast before falling asleep! Love this so much. Instead of waking up in the middle of the night and tossing and turning for an hour or two, as soon as I wake up, I just grab my headphones and started episode and I’m out within 20 minutes or so. Often times less. Perfect!
