Adult Onset Horsemanship

An informal and candid podcast discussing real world horsemanship with respected and experienced experts. Daniel is a guy who is good with horses. He has a background in cutting where he was predominantly involved in developing aged event horses and started over 1000 head of colts, many of whom went on to win lots of cash. A very bad horse wreck at a horse show, involving his niece, prompted him to begin working with people and showing them a no BS version of how to not get killed by their horses. He's since worked with thousands more horses and people from varying disciplines and breeds including many last chance problem horses. In addition to his general horsemanship knowledge he is an internationally known expert on bits and how and why they function. He has a well rounded knowledge base of horsemanship and is working hard at his communication skills with his own species. His wife is a firm believer that he really likes the sound of his own voice and that is the real reason he's started this podcast.http://dauphinhorsemanship.com/

    I am learning so much
I recently started listening to this podcast, but I am learning so much. I particularly really liked the discussion with Patrick King that came out while the Olympics are going on. These are hard discussions to have, but are very important. I am excited to keep listening and learning.
  • Great podcast on horses!
    Educational and Entertaining
I think what separates an excellent podcast from an average one is the ability of the moderator to ask the right questions. Kind of like a good horseman can get his/her horse to give its best, Daniel has the ability to draw out deep information from his guests. The interview with Patrick King was particularly great.

    Practical and logical perspective
Daniel is a very experienced trainer who thinks like a scientist or an engineer. There is never any woo woo in his approach. He is down-to-earth and practical. He is open to new ideas, but only if there is clear evidence they are effective. Listening to his podcast is like sitting around the fire with a down home good-ole-boy, but one who knows his stuff and is worth listening to. I have learned a lot from this podcast, and have enjoyed the time devoted to it.

    Daniel is excellent!
I love Daniel’s no-nonsense, getting-down-to-business, all-points-of-view-examined podcast! He is highly entertaining and I learn tons every time I listen. I only wish he gave clinics closer to where I live!

    Entertaining and educational
I found this after watching his bit series on YouTube which is the best if you haven’t watched it. I love that Daniel has just a good old boy way about him with some quirks but has actually educated himself to know alot about how and why horses do what they do. Weather it be the health of the horse or the mind. He breaks things down so I can understand it in simple terms and often different ways than I have thought of it in the past in some situations. I like that he tells the truth on how trainers fix problems. Sometimes you have to be a little aggressive with horses and he explains the proper times to do that. I have dealt with the peoples pets that have zero respect and they are the dangerous ones that you have to be aggressive with. Some you build confidence in and others you try to break down. I have been around horses my whole life and many of the things he says is how we have done it and it does work. He doesn’t shy away from people on his podcast when they don’t agree which is nice also but he is still very respectful. I don’t love the medical side of the podcast and some of those hosts but the rest is great and I know you need to be well rounded to satisfy all the listeners.

    Always great.
In particular we liked trailer loading section. We’ve always had horses that load easy but now have a gelding that is worried during loading. Looking forward to the next practice session using the techniques discussed. Thanks

    Fantastic podcast!
Always enjoy Daniel’s way of discussing the topics at hand….even if controversial, he has a smooth way of bringing out good points on both sides. His sense of humor is always appreciated and somewhat colorful at times but that makes it even better! Thanks for all you do!

Knowledge with a twist of humor
Daughin is a unique character, which makes this podcast far more than yet-another-horse-podcast. He just might be the master of dichotomy: strongly held opinions AND an impressively open mind. While listening to the show, I find myself deep in thought one moment and laughing out loud the next.

One of the best horse related podcasts with excellent entertainment thrown in as well!
I first found David Dauphin on YouTube back in 2022 when I went on a deep dive into bits. I began as someone who had ridden for years but embarrassingly didn’t ever really educate myself on all the different bits and how they fiction. I learned so much from David’s videos and now I’m a student once again listening to these very entertaining podcasts! I love learning and laughing so his sense of humor is very welcomed. I have already recommended this podcast to many people just starting out and to people who’ve ridden for years. Everyone can learn something especially with the excellent range of guests he has. I like how he doesn’t hide from the hard topics that are controversial because discussion is exactly what’s necessary, ex barefoot vs shod or positive vs negative reinforcement. Any horse lover will greatly benefit from listening. My favorite are the Q&A episodes though I did really enjoy his interview with Claire Dupris. She was excellent! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

No sales pitch, just knowledge and experience
Thrilled to find a seasoned trainer willing to share rational, experience and science based input on improving our journey with horses. And a few laughs....
