The Carmudgeon Show

Leisure #96Automotive #13

Part of the Hagerty Podcast Network, the Carmudgeon Show is a comedic, information-filled conversation with Jason Cammisa and Derek Tam-Scott, two car enthusiasts who are curmudgeonly beyond their years. Proving you don’t have to be old to be grumpy, they spend each episode talking about what’s wrong with various parts of the automotive universe. Despite their best efforts to keep it negative, they usually wind up laughing, happy, and extolling their love for cars. Which just makes them angrier and more bitter.Jason Cammisa is an automotive journalist, social-media figure, and TV host with over 300 million views on YouTube alone. Jason’s deeply technical understanding, made possible by a lifelong obsession with cars, allows him to fully digest what’s going on within an automobile — and then put it into simple terms for others to understand. Also, a Master’s Degree in Law trained him to be impossible to argue with.Derek Tam-Scott still tries. He’s a young automotive expert with old-man taste in cars, and a Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering — which means he knows how to be civil to Jason. Or at least he tries. With a decade and a half’s experience buying, selling, driving and brokering classic and exotic cars, he’s experienced the world’s most iconic cars. And hated most of them.

    An honest, entertaining show
I am biased. I’ve been a fan of Cammisa since he wrote about inline 6s at road and track. I love the show, and listen weekly. It presents an entertaining and educational window into the world of automobiles, auto journalism, auto history that is little found elsewhere. Holding to their standards, Jason and Derek present themselves as human, while extolling the inhuman desire to drive a car with great enthusiasm.

    Smart Podcast
Carmudgeons is one of the most intelligent podcasts I have come across. It’s an absolute treat to listen to and learn from Jason and Derek. If you love cars and driving good cars, all the better.

    Earlier is better
This show is nice to listen to from time to time but the earlier episodes were more engaging. As you branch out to other car focused podcasts this pod doesn’t hold up. One host here can come off as “a lot” while the other doesn’t bring enough energy to the table. Overall it’s a good show, but it’s losing its edge and it seems the only solution is to either change the host which lack energy or more guests.

    Unsubscribed!
These guys are smart and full of knowledge, but it’s no longer worth the listen. Between the ceaseless vocal fry of one host and the Tourette’s of the other, I should have dumped this one long ago. The last straw was their simultaneous whining about everything being political, while shrieking about their own partisan positions. Hard pass on any more of this.

    Two Types of Car People
In any group of car enthusiasts you’ll likely encounter people like Derek and Jason. Jason is one of my favorite auto journos, he’s able to appreciate cars at all price points and has a deep understanding of a variety of vehicles. Hyphen is also extremely knowledgable but is an unabashed snob and pedant. It’s safe to assume he comes from extreme privilege that has allows him access to fancy cars from an early age. It’s left him out of touch though, and ultimately I find him tiresome.

    Weekly gold
Sports fans have their shows that keep them current on who to draft, history of sports and every facet they desire to consume. This is the one for enthusiasts. I couldn’t ask for more, the chemistry between Cammisa and Hyphen is as good as ever. If the original Top Gear news segment ever had a podcast, this would be it! Great job never stop producing this, never stop driving.

    It could be good
I listened to a couple of these which I found interesting but then I got to the cyber truck episode. One of the hosts kept suggesting that Elon Musk kills his employees for various reasons. I don’t care either way about Elon but if you can’t hold you weirdo bias back I can’t take the show seriously.

    It’s Cammisa
    I generally like Cammisa’s content. I mean, who drives/has a model y and cars from 80s 90s and likes both? 👍🏽

This has to be the best car podcast on here
There hasn’t been one episode I did not enjoy listening to.

The purported 037 incident from the Top Gear episode is only partly true. It did happen but not with the 037. It was the Delta S4. Creative license! Made for a great Top Gear episode…

This is a must for car lovers with discerning taste.
This show is peerless for great car conversation for enthusiasts of all walks of life. Extremely educational, funny, polished and never boring. Just wish it was a daily show. Can’t get enough!

    Excellent Podcast for Car Enthusiasts
The dynamic duo do not fail to provide insight into automotive history and the aspects of vehicle design which form an informed basis for taste car collecting and driving. I grew up around old cars and have always owned cars I considered fun. These two have provided the vocabulary and technical intuition to describe the things I like about cars.

    Best car podcast
Love this show. I learn something every time I listen to you guys. I really like hearing about industry insights and regulations. As enthusiasts we sometimes scratch our heads why cars do the things they do and don’t realize that regulations are behind those quirks. I would love more of those topics. It helps me see the cars in a different light. Keep up the good work! Please don’t ever censor yourself in anyway. It’s what makes the show great.

This really is the best automotive podcast
This show has just the right amount of car nerd/goofy/interesting/not bro-ie/not based solely on expensive cars. This show actually made me rethink about what I enjoy in driving.

    Great!
You would think a podcast with a 95 year old man and a jaded car journalist would be terrible, but the same conversation about Mercedes works every week.

    Profanity Delete Package
Love the show and the content. My only nit is Cammisa’s excessive profanity. It’s not really funny and if there is a need to emphasize a point with an F-bomb, then don’t litter them every few points throughout the hour.

    Best Automotive Podcast!
I absolutely adore the Carmudgeon show with Jason and Derek! I’ve known and loved Jason’s work for a long time and have also come to enjoy and appreciate Derek’s expert opinion on this show. Their knowledge of the automotive landscape is unmatched and the conversations on this podcast are fascinating, often philosophical, and don’t often focus on the same old topics or reviews as other podcasts. I would highly recommend this show to any car enthusiast.

A must listen for all car enthusiasts!
Jason is the best automotive journalist working today when it comes to reviewing cars. His critical analysis is unparalleled, so his is a vital voice. Thank you Haggerty for giving him a platform!

One of the Best car podcast
When you put two funny, nutting and crazy knowledge car guys together, you get a great podcast. It’s great that they will be doing these shows more often, just hope it doesn’t lose the edge of the old shows. Pretty sure they will still be fun.

    My new favorite car podcast
A podcast by car nerds for car nerds. If you don’t like this podcast then you probably love to tell people how much horsepower your car has.

    Excellent!!!
So excited to have the show back! The Hyphen-Discount Sandler duo is amazingly entertaining and surprisingly informative. I have lost count of how many times I have listened to each episode. This show has saved me on many a long drive or choir filled weekend. Hope it goes on forever!

    Cammisa and DTS Weekly!?
Love their unique perspective on all things automotive. And as someone who is constantly telling ppl to get off my lawn this is the right car podcast for me.

One of the best car podcasts
What more can I say that the title does not reflect? Any more would be gilding the lily. Can’t wait to see what the collaboration with Hagerty brings! Hopefully a lot more of Jason and - !!!
