masher1983OkI can’t stand the music, and I feel like when I’m listening they try to make a mountain out of a molehill for the drama and it gets old pretty fast.
-
H CharlesA bit misleadingIt’s a well done show and thorough. However it is billed as science based medical mystery when in reality it’s more of a talk show dealing with feelings and emotions of the subjects instead of the science and intrigue. If you are in to Lifetime network more than Discovery Channel, check it out, but if you want true medical mystery, look elsewhere.

You guys are all jokesAt the edge of my seatObsessed with this podcast and so excited for new episodes to come out!!!!

Tangle70Five stars! How lucky the vast majority of us are to wake each day with a healthy body. This podcast will make you grateful for your own good health and open your eyes to the many mysterious ways your body can fail you. Moreover, it will introduce you to the strong men and women who suffer from these maladies and to those who dedicate their lives to finding a solution.

JarshushVery well done! The episodes are well researched and informativeI particularly like the fact that the subjects of the episodes are art of the presentation which brings a new dimension to their stories. Some are informational and some downright inspiring! I highly recommend !!!

PetVet13This show saved my lifeAs a veterinarian and someone who has battled a chronic illness, I have always enjoyed medical mystery shows, podcasts, etc. I liked the show immediately, but when I listened to the fourth episode about Shelby’s story, my jaw was on the floor. She was literally describing my exact experience with debilitating chronic fatigue (even down to the same initial “trigger”). I had pursued a diagnosis for years, but after normal blood tests, inconclusive sleep studies, and countless doctors telling me that my symptoms were “probably psychological,” I felt hopeless and thought that I was destined to be exhausted for the rest of my life. While I am still waiting for an official diagnosis, implementing the basic non-pharmaceutical treatments for POTS (increasing salt/water intake, using compression stockings, etc.) has helped me so much that I was able to stop taking prescription stimulants to stay awake. While I obviously relate very personally to this particular episode, every episode does a great job of conveying the seriousness of the medical ailment while still maintaining a sense of hope and positivity for other individuals battling with similar symptoms.

firstmamabearAwesome. InformativeLove this show. It gives you insight into all different aspects of having a disease.
-
NullityWanted to likeI really wanted to like this podcast and I even gave it six episodes which is three more than I normally do, but I just don’t like it. It’s not as good as MrBallen’s medical mysteries.
-
CassD55The show I’ve been looking for!I love this show, the way it’s made, the idea behind it-it’s so me! Please keep them coming, I can’t find this type of show anywhere! I love guessing the diagnosis😊

mdl6841Fluffy Garbage🗑️I thought I would like this podcast, but it feels so overproduced and contrived. Music is fine on a podcast, but the music they chose is way over the top and too loud in relation to the person’s voice, I agree very much with the person that said this podcast has a lifetime movie type feel and it’s not a compliment. I could over look the music if the content was interesting or compelling, but it’s rather dull and the repetitiveness of how painful it was and how much the person persevered makes it boring and redundant, plus there’s not a whole lot in the way of explaining the medical side of conditions, diseases, etc. I’d skip it unless you like lame and cheesy, emotionally manipulative lifetime movies, but it’s a hard pass for me.

fmtiggie67This was greatThis was great! I hope it comes back!

praxis78Great showInteresting and entertaining podcast!
-
violetjohnsonMusic is very distractingPretty interesting except for the random and very distracting music.
-
AngryEbayerGood but unexplained breaks are frustratingI love these types of documentary style podcasts but find it frustrating when they’re not updated regularly without explanation. I hope more episodes are coming soon. This is one I would definitely continue listening to. Very interesting and love the host’s voice.
-
LBAustinPEpisode 15/ElizaWhat a thoughtful, informative and entertaining listen! Updated: binged 2nd season over break. Super compelling stories and information. Really showcases the humanity within healthcare. Five stars and then some.
-
Coloradoorbust18!Interesting concept, poorly executedI’m a medical professional & I expected to love this- but the melodramatic presentation & the narrators fruity, breathless voice & style ruined it- unsubscribed!

Whole Foods ShopperToo emotional and not enough scienceWhat kind of medical/science based podcast doesn’t include scientific explanations of what’s happening and how it’s treated? This felt like a Lifetime movie focusing on the emotional battle instead of the actual symptoms, diagnosis, treatments, and explanations. Way too repetitive about how painful it felt or how resilient the person was.

CH00beeThe journey, The struggle, The pursuit for an accurate diagnosis. The lesson this podcast teaches is to get a 2nd opinion, 3rd opinion, 4th opinion! 5th opinion if you have to. Don’t give up in your pursuit of an accurate diagnosis!! The squeaky wheel gets the oil. Don’t give up until you can find that practitioner who accurately diagnoses and treats you. Don’t give up!! The pursuit of accurate diagnosis. Also if your insurance declines to cover something, APPEAL, APPEAL, APPEAL, APPEAL! You’ve got to stick up for yourself. You’ve got to speak to clinicians/licensed independent providers/ PCP’s in a straightforward manner where you say, “Ok. This treatment isn’t working. Perhaps I’m misdiagnosed.” Get a 2nd opinion. Advocate for yourself. Don’t give up. Seek treatment that works. Seek an accurate diagnosis!! I like the background music & the background sound effects of the monitors in the background. How terrifying would it be that your immune system is your enemy as with autoimmune diseases?
-
RebecculousFascinatingThis is in my short list of new favorites. I get excited when a new episode comes out. These are sometimes frustrating, sometimes heartbreaking stories about the human experience of the journey to an uncommon diagnosis. There are many reasons why a person’s disease, syndrome, illness goes undiagnosed or misdiagnosed, sometimes for years. I hope these stories help someone just beginning the search a much shorter journey.
-
audiblelossEnjoy the showI look forward to hearing the stories. The only thing I would change is the background music, in my opinion it is distracting.
-
1__2_3ObsessedThank you for this show- I have been binging it. So interesting & well formatted. Thank you sharing their stories
-
KarlaHSmithVery Interesting!Love this podcast!! It is very interesting and I like trying to figure out each case before the diagnosis is revealed. Keep the episodes coming!!
-
lovelovethispodcasg12345Addicting, informative, amazing!Thank you for sharing these people’s stories. I love how each one is presented. I just stumbled upon this podcast last month & have found myself binging all the episodes… so addicting!
-
idologMedicine or culture war?Every episode invokes race and status as a contributing causal element, typically when mere medical incompetence is the likely cause (all cases I've listened to post-date the radical destruction of medical competence around 2010). This show is less about interesting medical cases than it is about excusing quacks on the basis of politics. Absolutely disgusting.
-
PinkBunnaGreatInteresting and a good change ,well done
-
Mwood613Shockingly helpfulAmazing to see people and doctors both exposed to these real stories helping so many people….great work!

J_rmyMichelle, I can relate!O M G as I sit in my car at 1am in Phoenix after listening to your Podcast, I sit in complete awe. As I write this I’m having a episode, Michelle I can relate! Right now the right side of my face tingling, right side of my throat numb, right fingers twitchy, pain in my spine, yep another episode! I’ve been having episodes for easily 15 years now. I had a family doctor finally diagnosis me with silent migraines over 10 years ago! But back then I don’t know if there was a medical answer for them, he told me to treat with migraine meds and relax when having them! To hear you’re doing great and living life is a relief. And now it’s my turn to use your story to finally cure my symptoms! No more MRIs or blood work or people thinking I’m having a stroke when I’m not. THANK YOU Michelle and everyone on this Podcast. Fun side note, this was my maybe 3rd ever podcast!

Tony-C-LAShelbyLoving the podcast. I am an internal medicine physician and love hearing stories from patients point of view and trying to see how fast I can guess the diagnosis. I just wanted to send a message to Shelby from episode 4. Please get yourself and your daughter evaluated for Ehlers Danlos Syndrome. It can be associated with POTS, chronic pain, rashes (mast cell activation syndrome), and many other symptoms. I hope this message finds you.

girl tocaDon’t knowPretty awesome 😎 podcast I wish it had more this people you ask it seem they had a hard time with their disease. Young teenagers who are reading this to easy the period here are three thing from my experience 1. Have ibuprofen and my fool it should help take it before you have it or when it starts. 2. Have a heating back for it it could get intens so warm up for like a 1 or 1:30 it’s depends. Lastly 3. Have a towel a dark towel and put on your bed it should help you from leaking to your bed hope it’s helps bye 👋

Zebra4L143Hits close to homeThe timeliness of this podcast is unreal for me. So far two episodes pertain to diagnostic journeys I’m on right now and I’m pretty sure there’s a third. I feel so heard and seen and I love Lauren’s voice. Lauren handles all of her guests with respect and empathy. I understand this podcast may not apply to everyone other than listening to engaging medical journeys but, the care and coincidence of these stories for me right now has me all up in my feelings. Thanks Lauren & friends!
-
llmm1725Not what expectedVery minimal medical treatment information. Spends most of the time picking out faults with physicians/nurses and the health system as a whole.
-
HulaDog58Brilliant!Thanks to all for sharing their stories. I have Multiple Sclerosis and it also is a disease that is a matter of ruling out quite a few others.
-
Thee Truth! The JabsI hope you will start to document and share the horrific experiences of the Covid shot injured.
-
Mogadeet1451The human faces of rare diseasesThis engaging podcast focuses on people who suffer from rare diseases, often in agony for decades without an accurate diagnosis. It is sad, but the episodes end on a hopeful note. I want to know why these illnesses are so hard to diagnose. Some seem like “textbook” symptoms. Is it a problem with the training? Is it bias? I would like this aspect explored.
-
BellaSalemInteresting medical show!I have only listened to one episode so far but it seems like it will be an interesting and helpful show. Hopefully it will help people who suffer without knowing the cause. My daughter has Type 1 diabetes “T-1D” That would be an important chronic illness to examine. She is very bright and articulate, very knowledgeable about her disease. Yet she has an upbeat and positive attitude. She would make a great person to interview about her condition.
-
The Screaming HeadReally informativeI just found out about this show today from another podcast I listen to and then I binged all the episodes in one day. I love it and can’t wait to hear the new stories next season!!
-
GreenQueen1427Phenomenal podcastI’m so happy I found this podcast; it’s thorough, well done, and listens like a dateline episode. It’s SO good and the quality is top notch. Exactly what I was looking for when searching for a new podcast to get lost in!

DaMusicClinicGetting the word out about EDS!I am a physical therapist in Southern California that specializes in the treatment of hEDS/HSD. I loved the story about Kyle. It’s always shocking to me that no one picked up on the diagnosis earlier. The average time to diagnose is 10-14 years which is totally unacceptable. We are the only clinic specializing in this syndrome on the entire west coast of the US. Our info can be found in the Ehlers Danlos Society web page under the directory. For all of the EDS patients out there. You all are warriors. Please continue to spread awareness 💜💜💜🦓
-
JoJo-inSDAbsolutely fascinating! This podcast is fascinating and most importantly, informative. The personal stories are very compelling and interesting. I binged every episode and can’t wait for more!
-
Trackguru87659Where do we find details? This is a great show but if one does not know how to spell the diagnosis how can others learn more to see if if it fits themselves. The sickle cell Episode in particular never lists the actual diagnosis anywhere and unless you know how to spell it how can listeners learn more?
-
SnailHugsUnrelentingly sentimentalIf the Hallmark Channel had a medical drama; it’d be this. Saccharine to the point of nauseating. Almost zero medical information on the conditions. Listened to 3 in a row during a project, hoping it might get better; instead got two back to back stories where the patient’s mom is referred to as having, “mommy sense tingling”. So disappointed. Guess I’ll stick with This Podcast Will Kill You.
-
DouKremCool concept, but overdoneNeat idea but way too dramatic and overproduced.
-
KGRiverGood stories.I like the premise and the format. I like people talking about their experiences and the experts adding details. I find the events are impactful enough without the distracting intense music. I would recommend using sound effects and music more sparingly. At times I also find the commentary more melodramatic than it needs to be in order to still be respectful. The stories are plenty emotional without music and commentary over-explaining what to feel.
-
thrashloversI love this podcastInteresting and informative.
-
ZaddddddyJust what i was looking for!I’m a nursing student and these stories are so interesting and educational. I cant wait to hear more stories
