Ditchweed721Good job by you DanBest storyteller and great content. We see the hard work and appreciate it. Thanks

IFYTITIt’s simpleThe greatest podcast of all time.

cme100160Top Shelf HistoryIt takes time for anyone to paint you a re-creation of an event in our history that text books, alone, do not contain everything a person needs to know in order to paint that image within their brain. A woman I once worked with in the 1980s described to me her experience of the ‘62 missile crisis like this, “our teacher sent us home to die with our families instead of here at school.” Nowhere have I read what she described to me in detail events of that day until now. Today her fear & truth has been confirmed after listening to this podcast.

WtfsteveThe greatest podcast aroundQuote It’s very good Endquote
-
Taber246ContextDan describes events together with what is happening around them and how they affected each other till they make sense. He is humble and descent. Did I ever expect to listen 5 hours of a single podcast? Not I did listen to many long podcasts of his, I wanted more when I finished them!

Kinda lameAudio is terribleDude goes from quietly licking my ears drums like a asmr video, to destroying them from shouting. Its horrid
-
walkingspanishdownthehallThe best!Thank you Dan Carlin with your amazing story telling skills and love of history! It has changed me. I am a total history nerd now thanks to you! Keep doing what you are doing!

CapnCrunchMD10Mack a doniaRated 1 star because he made me irate for 4+ hours saying “mackadonia” instead of Macedonia. What’s wrong with you dude?

Slimesoldier11Stop yelling when reading quotesIt’s rather annoying having to listen to the constant volume changes from when you’re giving background compared to when you’re yelling to read quotes. There’s no need to shout every quote while you whisper everything else.

DLD91My Favorite PodcastDan Carlin reaches into the depths of history with a fine toothed comb and constructs a riveting narrative that transcends the common historical record. I have listened to every available episode of this podcast and continuously recommend it to colleagues and friends. The amount of research that goes into creating these podcasts precludes being able to release them as quickly as I would like, but I would not sacrifice the value of this excellent series in favors of quicker releases.

ZaneJTAmazing podcast if you like history with an extra side dish of historyThis podcast is like the cool uncle you saw only once or twice every year as a kid but every time you saw him he always had amazingly fantastical and detailed stories, Turkish candy and a shirt knitted by villagers in Kazakhstan. There is the subject and many, many detailed detours that give the listener context for even the ants that were on scene. Cannot recommend to enough people.

.H.I846AmazingSimply the best podcast ever. He himself made me fall in love with history and the amount of effort he puts into these is incredible. Great job Dan!

Ads aplenty 6Fading from my viewLack of regular content, episodes that are too long, and covering topics that are boring. If you are reading this and you agree with what I just said, I strongly recommend An Old Timey Podcast. Listen to the John Brown and Lucille Ball episodes.
-
why am I listening to this?Pretty goodI like the show a lot, however I wish that previous episodes weren’t locked behind a paywall and I feel that Dan rambles a lot and uses too many words.
-
ZketchupmanSimply the very best history podcast (and one of the best in any category)Give Dan a listen, his work is unbelievable
-
blaine63Details and anglesDan always, without fail, hits us with the details that matter and he finds angles from which to approach the “story” that illuminate the whole story. He takes a one dimensional story and turns it into a a much deeper and richer tale. The production is ALWAYS compelling and ALWAYS brings it to life! Thanks, Dan…and Ben.

Poetic LinguistMagnificent Amount of InformationHardcore History is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to learn about the history of our world. From understanding what ancient cultures were like in the Old Testament to the build up of Japan’s fall during World War Two, Mr. Carlin can take something that is completely foreign to most of the world and explain it to a six year old, which means he knows what he is talking about. He draws from several different translations when working with writings other languages so as to get a better understanding of the events, and I would recommend it to Christians and Non-Christians alike. This can also be used as a history curriculum for homeschool parents who are studying these subjects with their children. Some episodes are not entirely child-friendly, but most of them are. It also depends on your own decision of what your children can handle, so maybe listen to them before you let your child. A big thank you to Mr. Carlin for the amazing explanation, and for making everything history more interesting. If the Gaelic storytellers were still seen as higher than the king, you’d be the best of them all.

allendrew27Carlin for presidentI say that half Joking! I thoroughly enjoy every single episode. Anything Dan Carlin does is done well. He ia a great story teller. He must do endless hours of reading The amount of time he must have to put in to even one episode is mind numbing. If I’m driving by myself, which I usually am. I’m listening to Dan. I’ve listened to everything he’s put out including his book. Anyhow much respect to you Mr Carlin. - Hatguy

Likes but...Not for the casual historianDan Carlin attacks the subjects of his podcast with all the enthusiasm and bravado of a college freshman. He may state the context is king but that doesn’t mean he’s found the context. He makes it readily apparent that he is a journalist and not a historian by missing the fine details in favor of broad generalizations and assumptions based on a quick analysis of those generalizations. On top of that he desperately wants you to know that he is intelligent, often taking detours that have the soul purpose to demonstrate how well read and or smart he is. If nothing else this podcast will hopefully inspire people to research these topics themselves and learn the real history from a historian who has true a contextual understanding. Lastly if pronunciation matters to you he gets wrong almost every time sometimes to staggering degree adding or swapping vowels with reckless abandon.
-
foster-akPropagandistCarlin is a leftwing nutbag, can’t trust his take on history. Sounds cool though
-
AwolfnamedEarlNo one does it betterDan Carlin and team provide an informative and engrossing look at history. 4 plus hours with Dan in your ears feels like no time at all, you will get sucked in. Can’t recommend strongly enough.

ColoradoCFPerfect mix of compassion and graphic detail to bring history aliveThe level of detail mixed with quotes from direct sources plus Dan’s narrative style really brings each historical story event alive! This podcast has deeply and irrevocably impacted my understanding of WWII and what happened in the Pacific - a theater that typically gets much less airtime in U.S. high school classrooms. Please keep the podcasts coming, Dan! And… if you ever have the chance, I’d love to listen to one on Ireland and the resistance!

canoes4Tell the storyMore about Carlin than the story he’s not as insightful as he thinks

LittlePuebloPivotal in understanding the worldI started listening to Dan Carlin, and I believe his recounting of and exploration of the human condition has made me better informed in today’s complicated world. This is history done right.
-
Jack ,:) :)Simply phenomenalThis show is hands down the best podcast I’ve ever listened to ever. Dan is like the one teacher that says they can’t draw and then draws a masterpiece. I started listening to this podcast when I was 10 and even then he was still able to enthrall me. Anyone who wants to learn about history in a more casual way, this is your show. :)

Sophia_10001Longtime listener disappointed in DanYou know why, Dan. You know you’re on the wrong side of history. Carry on victim blaming and advocating for gen oh side.
-
JVJoynerTDS Dan is straying from historical facts!I really used to love this show. But when you start in on insane rhetoric like, “The far right government of Israel.” I can no longer take it seriously. Dan is not uneducated nor ignorant. So, he doesn’t have the excuse that he doesn’t know the difference between the right and the far right. Lumping them all into one category is a lack of intellectual integrity on Dan’s part and he should be ashamed of himself.
-
ObscenileThe best history content on any mediumWe don’t deserve Dan Carlin. This is hands down the best of the best historical content on any medium available today. Long live Dan.
-
DickyBobbyNot goodI’ve given this guy multiple shots on various topics and I can say with great confidence that I’ve never heard anybody use more words to say so little than this guy. I imagine he would take an hour and a half to explain how to pour a cup of coffee. Getting to the pouring part would only take twice that. If you need hours and hours and hours of unobtrusive background noise, however, this is show is golden.
-
Royce1629Really well well done!My only complaint is that the creators takes so long to release each amazing episode, but I'm so excited when I finally get to listen to the final product!
-
Mooner1981Booming EnthusiasmImmersive and enthralling podcast on history. Dan Carlin delivers a lived-in history. He takes figures, dates, and places and weaves them within the context of the situation and culture in a meaningful way. -It’s entertaining when he quotes someone:)
-
Hairj46Dan’s voice is a hugI absolutely love Dan! To listen to violently horrific historical accounts in his voice it’s a strange sensation of comfort. Dan, you’re absolutely my favorite! In a world full of garbage empty calories of entertainment, your podcast is a comfort of quality equating to peak cognitive nourishment. 5 stars always.
-
j dog!!!Very niceIt is very educational and I found it helpful in my studies for my college history class thank you!!!
-
Neal NettWell worth the timeSuch amazing stories well told and summarized by Dan. Love his humble acknowledgements “I’m not a historian” but he weaves the different sources together so well and gives them their due. Just an awesome show!
-

Nickname12353Where did all the episodes go?!?I love this podcast! I’ve been listening for years. Last week I went to go listen to one…. and there’s only 15 episodes left. What the heck happened all the content?
-
Twiz TaylorThe Best history podcast outI been listening to Dan Carlin for some years now and I even listened to the same episodes repeatedly because of his delivery and vast knowledge on topics and I love how he goes to the ground zero level of these horrific subjects and not gloss over them like text books in public schools. I appreciate that.
-
kspeirs90Great showAmazing show with tons of information. I’ve bought every single episode and I love it. I just wish that he cared more about it so he would put out more episodes. I understand that they take a lot of research but I wish it was more than 1ish a year.
