(PSYC 110) What do your dreams mean? Do men and women differ in the nature and intensity of their sexual desires? Can apes learn sign language? Why can’t we tickle ourselves? This course tries to answer these questions and many others, providing a comprehensive overview of the scientific study of thought and behavior. It explores topics such as perception, communication, learning, memory, decision-making, religion, persuasion, love, lust, hunger, art, fiction, and dreams. We will look at how these aspects of the mind develop in children, how they differ across people, how they are wired-up in the brain, and how they break down due to illness and injury.

This class was recorded in Spring 2007.

    Awesome
Started to listen to this on iTunes university and found it on here... a little more convenient on here but they have the assignments and slides on iTunes university sooooo it depends on how much you wanna look into it... started to listen to it bc I was feeding my brain crap with social media during quarantine. I have taken a few psycho courses before and wanted to refresh my mind before starting grad school in the fall. Great professor !!!

    Great
It’s great to have this available in general. I want to let people know if they have access to itunes U you can get the slides, the mid term and final, the syllabus, a link to one of the books on google, and the answer key there for free. My only complaint would be that there seems to be the same three students who are deathly ill and are constantly coughing through every single lecture incessantly.

    Recommend!
Such a great free course. The lectures are a compelling introduction to Psychology. I’m grateful to Yale for sharing them with the public.

    Great professor, except missing slides..
This course is really interesting to me, but for some reason I feel quite left out. Ok, I am not paying tons of money to Yale, and it is somehow OK, not to get the full benefits. But, following Psychology course, without the help of slides and pictures is somewhat annoying to say the less. They could at least give references to the material they are using on the slides so we can search ourselves. Showing a video in lecture 2 and not even giving us a chance to find it on the web was like totally unacceptable. I will try couple of more lectures. Though I can imagine getting tired of all this guessing game…

    Wonderful lecturer!
This professor is an absolutely fantastic lecturer. The series has transformed my morning commute into something I look forward to and leaves me chuckling over, thinking about, and sharing ideas I'd never considered. 5 stars for the material / 6 stars for the delivery!

Loved this course, loved professor Paul Bloom
It is great how this course is just audio, I learned so much with so little space used on my iphone. Most importantly, it was enjoyable! Mr. Bloom is funny and informative at the same time. Great lectures!! I would love to attend his classes. OYC should make more psychology courses!!!

    Psych 101
Great lecturer, but those camera people are idiots. When he turned to the slide material, they shot the back of his head instead of the exhibit. It may as well have been an audio only presentation.

    Best Professor
Paul Bloom makes even the least interesting topics very interesting! He is funny and really knows how to teach well.

    Excellent overview
Not seeing the slides is a loss, but since the professor fills his lectures with many insightful examples and presents in an engaging way, this course is highly informative. The section on dissociative identity disorder was too short and outdated, but other than that - wonderful course:-)

I'm currently doing a doctoral program in clinical psychology and I love to watch these lectures to recap on the basics. They are an excellent introduction. Dr Bloom is a great lecturer and never fails to be engaging and humorous. I watch these while in the kitchen or on the bus which is really convenient. If you are less familiar with the material, you might want to watch them in a more peaceful setting.

    Amazing!
I get bored easily but Paul's lectures are really interesting and explain the information very clearly! For those people who say they can't see the slides, the slide shows are available on the Internet. (I think on Yale's website). I don't think the slides have the video clips but they are still helpful. :)

Wish i could attend this class at Yale
Amazing prof, great lectures, love the way he does it. What really frustrates is lack of his supporting materials, such as videos and powerpoint slides. Yale attendees must be lucky((

    Just what I needed
Mid life career change in progress, starting an MA in Psych soon and needed to brush up on Psych 101. I can't say how much I appreciate this being available. Has completely taken the anxiety of diving into a new subject away. Dr. Bloom is an outstanding lecturer. This is a real steal. A Yale course for free?!?!? Come on, how lucky we are to be living in a day and age where you can essentially audit a class at Yale for free. The only downside is that even though they say some of the slides and videos he shows on his projector will no be shown due to copyright reasons, I'm half way through the course and still have yet to see any of the stuff on the screen. Frustrating when trying to understand the concepts he's talking about. Hence the loss of a star.

    Fantastic
This is awesome. Probable Dr. Bloom can publish his new class, so video guys can do a better job on focusing the slides better. He is an excellent communicator!

    bad camera angle
great professor, but why the hell don't they show the powerpoint presentations? extremely frustrating.

Outstanding course - for Intro, Review or just plain fun
Found the material and lectures to be outstanding. I am 20 years removed from school where I earned a Math degree from a top school and I am now taking classes that always interested me and never had the time to fit into my schedule: Psychology, Genetics, Modern Social Thought and Constitutional Law from Yale, MIT and Oxford. This is what school should have been. You do it at your own pace, dabble where you want, and I am knocking off a couple a month. Good fun ! What's even more important is that I am introducing my kids and their friends families to these lectures, so that this material can be accessed by young minds at the high school and teen levels. For folks from difficult economic circumstances who cannot afford to attend these elite schools, this was a fabulous idea. Thank you Yale, MIT and all the rest for accessibility to these gems.
