Helpful and inspirational podcast on how to living out being a faithful and God loving Mother.
This has been so helpful and inspirational me. It reminds me to be a God loving mother when raising and educating my children. Thank you.

    Autumn is lovely
I feel as though Autumn is a dear friend. Though she might not have years of experience, she points towards the way we ought to aim, while linking arms with other mothers on the same journey. She encourages me to look towards the things above, as she learns to do the same. I find her thought provoking, and lovely.

This podcast is my happy place
Seriously. It’s the podcast I go to when I feel tired, burned out, frustrated, or just a bit uninspired in mothering/homeschool journey. 15 minutes for a complete perspective shift. I always end up feeling inspired and joyful. Truly a refreshing taste of the good, the true, and the beautiful. Every. Single. Time. Thanks, Autumn!

Not enough experience for the expertise she projects having
Her oldest child is I think 7, so grade 1 in standard schools. For someone who is monetizing their expertise as much as possible I don't think she has the credentials to back it up.

    So inspiring!
I appreciate all Autumn Kern has done to share what she is learning with the broader community of mother educators in this era! Her podcast with Andrew Kern (no relation—I always wondered, ha!) was the best podcast I’ve ever heard in my life. Seriously, go listen to it!

    Great! Until not.
Autumn is well-spoken and well-thought. Autumn’s amorous relationship with CiRCE is my biggest concern with her content. CiRCE makes their money by preying on the fear of homeschool moms. “You can’t possibly be competent enough to homeschool your children without doing OUR elite apprenticeship program for only $$$$ and then, with our formula, your little children will end up virtuous.” 🤮 Charlotte speaks emphatically about bringing children directly to the mind of an author or individual who has had an original spark on a subject. No apprenticeship needed. No workbooks on virtue. No dissecting great works. No price tag. Being caught in the shiny snare of CiRCE shows Autumn’s youth. She’d do well to return to more experienced CM mommas for the ongoing discussion for the ways in which Charlottes ideas may overlap with the great tradition.

    Freedom and encouragement!
AH this podcast has been so inspiring and is a great way to explain the vision to those in my life. As a Catholic mom desiring the best home education I can give, I think the CM Classical way is it.

    Beware
Autumn Kern is not a good representative of Charlotte Mason. She “borrows” heavily from those older and wiser than herself, and then distorts what she has taken for her own monetary gain. Please find a different podcast to listen to.

    Such an inspiring podcast!
This podcast stokes the imagination and the intellect and I’m excited to have found it! As I feel called to become more of a CM homeschooler I find these ideas and especially the discussion of principles highly encouraging. Thank you!

    So much to Learn!
There’s so much to learn when you enter the world of classical education and Autumn knows how to break it down into bite sized pieces. I loooove listening to your podcast and YouTube channel! Thank you Autumn for sharing your insights with us!

    Autumn
I love listening to Autumn. She is so articulate and concise. I get frustrated with long podcasts where the speaker spends a large amount of time going off topic. What mom has time for that ? But Autumn dives right in and gets to the point.

    Christ-Filled Motherhood, Conceptually and Practically
I’m convinced The Commonplace has what every other influencer Christian mom is missing, and that is an emphasis on Christ and His deep work in our hearts and the hearts of our children. I am a new listener, having just listened to about 5 episodes; I came for information about Charlotte Mason and am left convicted and inspired to change my daily rhythms and align them with Christ. Autumn tells us how a classical Charlotte Mason approach can be a tool to do just that, and I am on fire now! There are many excellent parenting resources in Christian circles, but most are either written by men, who I find sometimes offer an incomplete picture for a mom (we as women just approach life differently than men) or are written by women who offer practical advice that isn’t rooted in Christian principles, even though they use God’s name. The Commonplace is the first resource I’ve found that fills in both gaps: a mother passionate for Christ and His work in her household shares her heart with all of us. And I’m only on Season 1! Thank you Autumn for giving me a complete picture that works to align me with Christ so that I can glorify Him “in the common places.”

    Mixed feelings
This is a tough one to rate because the content itself is great, but I cannot stand Autumn’s hosting voice. Her cadence, the words she places emphasis on, and the overall tone come across arrogant and even a bit pretentious. It’s an odd tone to have considering she has a much more limited experience actually homeschooling compared to many other podcasters in the homeschool world - it’s gives off a pridefulness in her understanding that isn’t backed up by years and years (and multiple students) worth of experience. It is sadly off putting.

    A classic
This podcast feels like a classic work. Something good and beautiful that I can return to over and over for greater insight and wisdom. Thank you so much for your work and effort into this podcast. I really needed it in my life. I’ve only been listening for two days and it has already transformed my heart. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

    Love learning and listening.
I have really been enjoying this podcast and would highly recommend for any mom who is interested in starting CM method of teaching in their home. Thank you for breaking it down so nice for moms to learn.

    Helpful and Inspiring!
This has quickly become my favorite podcast. Each sentence Autumn says is well thought-out beautifully stated as she unpacks Charlotte Mason’s inspiring ideas about education. My husband is also hooked on this podcast and we have both grown in our understanding of how we want to educate our children. Thank you, Autumn! Highly recommend!

Yay! How to combine CM & classical!
So thankful to find this and the basics of Miss Mason and what that looks like while keeping the Classical approach!

    Truth! Beauty! Goodness!
Autumn has a unique way of explaining life that compels you to think and be a better person. She goes beyond teaching how to be a mother-teacher and the principles of Charlotte Mason. Autumn teaches truth, beauty and goodness because SHE IS truth, beauty and goodness.

    Simply Inspiring
I just recently found the commonplace podcast by Autumn, and I am going back through every last one of her episodes. She has deep thoughts, is inspiring to listen to, and does not shy away from difficult topics. Thank you for your hard work to share this much needed content!!

    Inspiring and Thought Provoking
Autumn and this podcast were my first introduction to Charlotte Mason and what life could look like through the classical wardrobe. Seeking a life for you and your children that focuses on the True, Good and Beautiful is daunting at times, but Autumn through this podcast, her YouTube channel, and her Common Mom subscription have held my hand through it all and made the journey so much the better. Her insights are inspiring and sometimes humbling, and it’s obvious she gives much time and attention to each episode and endeavor she undertakes. Highly recommend and encourage any parent who hope to homeschool and just live a better life in general give her a listen and a follow in all the things.

    Just what I needed!
Autumn is a God send to me and my family. Her podcast is a breathe of fresh air! I am transforming my home life because of her wonderful work.

    So Thankful!!!
I first found Autumn and her beautifully engaging content on YouTube, searching for someone who homeschooled with both Classical and Charlotte Mason ideals. I was trying to answer the question, “could they work together?” Because I love both philosophies so much. Well, Autumn became my go-to gal as I navigated these very personally uncharted waters. After listening to her entire catalogue of episodes, save maybe one or two, I feel so well established in this world and am excited to dive into the everyday workings of a Classical, Charlotte Mason education this next school year. She has provided so many helpful explanations and practical resources. I’ll keep coming back again and again because I feel she is such a trustworthy voice in this area. Thank you, Autumn, for showing up for us new mother teachers. Grateful to be on this journey with you!

    Good, true, beautiful
As a Charlotte Mason mom who has been figuring it out after her kids are already school age, I so appreciate this podcast. Autumn has taken years to figure out the Charlotte Mason and classical world before she has kids of school age. Autumn gives so much to chew on and think over, weaving imagery and Christ through it all. I’m very thankful for her podcast.

    Impressive
This podcast is extremely helpful. Autumn is clearly very well researched and educated, and a ton of fun to listen to. She calls you to higher as a mother and home educator. Excellent and beautiful podcast

    You are a Godsend!!
I love The Commonplace the podcast and YouTube channel. There were so many days this year where I needed some inspiration and reflection and listening to Autumn is like having your best friend right there with you wherever you are at! Thank you!

Autumn is why I want to have a CM homeschool
I found Autumn and Common Mom on YouTube at the very beginning of her channel. I loved her vibe, the principals she stands for, and the ideas that she was teaching. That led me to her podcast The Commonplace, and I couldn’t imagine a work without it now. This podcast is like sitting down with a friend to discuss and ponder over only the very best ideas in order to pursue a life of truth, goodness, and beauty. Autumn doesn’t water down anything, but she also doesn’t tell you what to think - she pushes you to take the ideas, think through them, and then apply them to your own life in the way that makes sense for you. You don’t have to be a homeschool mom to take something away from this podcast. I have 2 little ones in the early years, knowing full well that I will be homeschooling them, but all that Autumn presents in the podcast pushed me right into the Classical wardrobe and the Charlotte Mason world. I enjoy every episode as they’re articulate, well thought out, and soul-filling. I encourage any lady of virtue, homeschool mom or not, who wants to pursue the greatest ideas for herself (and her kids). Each episode is better than the last!

Most Helpful + Inspiring Podcast Ever!
I’ve been learning about all things Charlotte Mason/Classical Education for nearly four years now, but it is only in the past year when I discovered The Commonplace Podcast that I am finally understanding how to apply and live out this beautiful way of life! Our family has grown and is thriving because of the wisdom and encouragement I’ve received through The Commonplace & also her paid membership called Common House. This is an educational podcast but I’ve recommended certain episodes to friends who don’t even have kids yet because the principles Autumn talks about are so life-giving for ALL. I could not recommend this resource more, and if you know me in real life you know this is true!

    A Gentle Nudge
I love this podcast. It is the only one I listen to consistently. Autumn is concise, gentle, encouraging and challenging all at once. This podcast has helped me think about the world in a new (old) way while pointing me toward ordo amoris and an ordered homeschool. I share this with anyone I can!
  • EvaEnnis
    Always learning
Autumn has a way of making classical education accessible to moms who are new to the idea while also enriching moms who have been around it a while. I’m always left inspired after listening to her podcasts!

Great Podcast to learn about Classical and Charlotte Mason Education
I have listened to The Commonplace podcast for the past few years. I also joined her private group a few months ago because I get so much out of listening to the ideas she talks about. I have stopped listening to a lot of podcasts, but this is one of the few podcasts I still listen to. Autumn does a great job of explaining the principles of Charlotte Mason and how they fit in with the larger classical tradition. I feel like our first year of homeschooling has gone really well and part of that is due to what I have learned from Autumn through her podcast and her Commonhouse group. I highly recommend this podcast!
  • HRitschard
Favorite podcast for mothering and schooling
The Commonplace podcast (and all of Autumn’s work) has been so influential on my life and motherhood. Autumn shares big truths and principles in an articulate and winsome way. She has inspired me to fall deeper into the classical wardrobe, to seek to live a more humanizing life, and to pursue truth, goodness, and beauty alongside my family in our everyday life. I’m so grateful for Autumn’s work, and I recommend it to everyone I can!

    Through the Wardrobe
Autumn is the best guide into truly Classical living, through the instruments of atmosphere, discipline, and life. This podcast is unique, in that she typically leaves herself and her specific modes of implementation out of the picture, in favor of pure philosophy. I love that the episodes are typically <20 minutes and packed to the brim with good things— no twaddle or chit chat! I do look forward to the episodes as they’re released, but I’ve also benefited from the archive and have listened to a couple of episodes multiple times as needed.

    Love
I love learning and getting more inspiration for not just my homeschool life, but my life as a mother and as a child of God, as well!

    Inspiring AND instructional
This podcast distills lofty concepts into bite sized chunks- perfect for pondering and then working into your daily life. There is a perfect balance of principle and practical application that make this my go to for better understanding my role as a mother and mother teacher. Thank you, Autumn, for all your hard work developing this excellent resource.

    A wealth of knowledge
Even though Autumn has only been homeschooling a short time, her dedication to study and understand the Charlotte Mason philosophy is so inspiring and has breathed life into my tired homeschool!

    Practical and Inspiring!
Autumn’s corner of the internet is one of my very favorite places. I found her on You Tube whilst researching Charlotte Mason and I have learned so much! She gives practical advice but doesn’t do all of the work for you. Challenges you to think for yourself but helps point you in the right direction.
  • LuigiGB1993
    Inspiring with a wonderful host
This is obviously not a self-help podcast, but it’s reignited my love for the true, the good, and the beautiful, and inspired me to live this love out in my daily life. Thank you, Autumn, for speaking intelligently and substantively to mothers.

God has used the Commonplace to change my life
Truly, God has used The Commonplace to change my life. After having baby #3 and doing the “evaluate your whole life” thing yet again (as I am sure some can relate to with every baby you add to the family), I remembered an old friend lending me Charlotte Mason books during 2020. I was struggling to find my way as a new homeschooling mom, so I went to work reading Charlotte Mason herself - Home Education - and listening to The Commonplace. With brilliance and wit, Autumn gently showed me what this “good life” could be as a mother-teacher in my specific home with my specific kids. The vision AS WELL AS the practical helps she offers through her podcast has helped set me on a path toward “truth, goodness, and beauty” that I never really knew existed before. This podcast is truly for the mama who WANTS the good life for her and her children, but needs some wisdom on how to work that out. Classical education previously scared me away because I thought myself incapable of giving that kind of education to my little loves, but Autumn has shown me the light - to see that God is equipping me to do the good work of giving my children a truly Living Education. Thank you Autumn!
  • AmyMcCullough
    My favorite podcast!
Before listening to the Commonplace I always said my homeschool was Charlotte Mason inspired because I was intimidated by a full Charlotte Mason education. Once I started listening to Autumn I went through the wardrobe and it has changed my homeschool and life for the better! Listening to the Commonplace has given me the confidence to use a Classic Charlotte Mason education and Autumn’s wisdom and practical advice have been so helpful. I definitely recommend Autumn’s podcast for every mother, even if you aren’t homeschooling!

    Be Encouraged
As a first time homeschool mom with no local community (rural living) Autumn’s work has been a vital resource and a constant encouragement to me. The episodes are quick and packed with lasting ideas to think upon and further look into when the time allows. Get a cup of tea and your pen and paper to make notes.

    Serving a feast…
Autumn welcomes you to the wonderful, classical world of Charlotte Mason by not throwing another curriculum at you, but equipping you with principles and ideas. Let’s face it, who needs another morning loop curriculum? Mothers need to learn how to be better educators for themselves and their children. So much of Autumn’s work has turned my school table into a feast instead of a laborious chore.

    Charlotte Mason Philosophy Class
I am loving this podcast. I have always steered clear of Charlotte Mason because of my perception of her philosophy that I saw on blogs/instagram. I thought you taught your kids 30 different subjects a day (A feast!) and then let them run wild and free outside, because they are innately good creatures who need less rules and more following of whatever whims they have that day. However, I have been refreshingly wrong! Autumn has shattered all my wrong ideas about Charlotte Mason. I am beginning to see the high calling of the mother-teacher and how an education with depth cannot be measured through comprehension questions or fill-in-the-blanks.

    The Principles and the Practical
So grateful for this podcast—has truly transformed how I think about education, how I implement our education in our home, and how I continue my own education. Hands down best educational podcast for homeschooling mamas!

Practical encouragement for the classical CM homeschool mom!
Autumn’s podcast has been so incredibly helpful to me, specifically in helping me to realize that before anything else, I need to have a working philosophy of education for our family. Her podcasts get me thinking and have helped me gain confidence as a mother-teacher. I also really, really appreciate her crafting of meaningful long-form content that nourishes my heart and mind.

The true worth of a CM lifestyle
In a world where Charlotte Mason can mean pretty pictures and going for walks, Autumn concisely summarizes CM without diluting her. She points out the deeper truths found in CM’s philosophy and shared how the beauty is found the soul shaping as a result of making this a way of life. I highly recommend Autumn’s podcast for anyone wanting a better understanding of the eternal truths Charlotte Mason points us towards.

    Help for overwhelmed newbie homeschooler
This podcast and all things Commonplace has been so helpful in exploring the riches of classical/Charlotte Mason homeschooling (and how they’re the same philosophy). I have been blessed by Autumn’s contribution; explaining the philosophy and the living ideas she presents inspire the whole of my mothering, not just education.

    She makes CM achievable!
I have been striving to create a CM education in my home for years, but always would stall and believe that it just wasn’t going to happen. Autumn gives practical ways to implement and live a CM life.

    Grateful mama
I have learned SO much from this woman. I really would not be the mother I am without this podcast or her common house membership. She’s like a big sister, holding your hand and saying here’s what I’ve learned… now digest it for yourself and see what you think. And I’m here with you! I wish more people knew about Autumn and her podcast and send to all my mom friends with young kids!

I recommend it all the time!
I love this podcast! Autumn helped me understand the wonderful philosophy of Charlotte Mason, and I love that she blends it with the Classical world. I have gained so much vision and inspiration through the information shared on all of the Commonplace platforms. I recommend it to all my homeschool mom friends!

One of my favorite wardrobes to enter: The Commonplace
Hands down, one of my top 3 favorite podcasts! Motherhood, home education, and other life happenings all drew me into the podcast, but Autumn’s witty and relatable, yet thought-provoking, conversations have kept me around for the long haul. I frequently find myself grabbing my notebook and writing things down to ponder later on. The Commonplace Podcast adds immense value to my life as a home educator! And as one of our favorite Common Moms, our host, says, “further up, and further in!”
